given the dash indicates when in 4WD, you're not paying very close attention.

On the topic of 4x4, would there be any issue turning the truck off while in 4hi or 4lo?
Figure if you're off road or in a snow storm and what not.

Doesn't say anything in the manual about it.

I never had an issue in my 2nd gen... I'd leave it locked in on snowy nights and such.

I find that being able to flip her into 4HI at hwy speed is a real nice feature.... Picture this.... I'm heading North on Hwy 11 through the snowbelt and the right lane has bare "tracks" but the left lane has about 4" to 6" of snow in it..... AND, of course the traffic is all lined up in the right lane and going 40 KM/H.

I can't take that too long and I flip her into 4 hi and slowly ease over to the left lane and slowly accelerate to pass the snails. (trying not to blind them in the flying snow)..!!

After the pass, if right lane is still bare, I'll ease her back and flip her back tp 2 Hi and cruise on home...! Works for me...:thumbsup::canada:

Are you on a unicycle? You must not know what 4x4 means...
    4x1 would make more sense.

I like everything about this post, except I wouldn't bother switching out of 4 high until both lanes were completely snow free.

Yeah, I could leave it, but I don't need to overwork the front end. It's just habit I guess...!!

I go highway speeds in 4hi all the time. It's called the Midwest. Driving around in RWD (with an empty bed especially) is a sure recipe for that bed passing right by you as you watch the ditch suddenly get much bigger very quickly.

no unicycle, just a sport, with lsd. one wheel per axle is doing the work, thats it. in 4 Hi.

That would be 4x1 then. Unless you took off 3 of your tires. And both rear wheels still get power, so it's 4x2 really.

how do you figure a 4 x 1 or 4 x 2 ? I'm saying you have one wheel per axle doing the work in 4 Hi with LSD. How do figure that both wheels in the rear are powered like I have a diff lock?

If you have equal traction, they are getting equal power.

Sorry, didn't realize you said 4hi, but still. 1x1 makes no sense unless you are on a unicycle...
4x4 is 4x4 with or without lockers.

I see you have a offroad, nice, but a sport with LSD is only spinning one wheel at a time per axle. yes my truck has 4 wheels, but only one wheel per axle is doing anything in 4 HI.

The thread has wondered. Not even close to what the op was asking about.

This is an entirely different topic. Maybe start another thread?

    Totally. Sorry.
Yes, I have turned on 4x4 near 60 on straight highway/freeway many times. It's fine :D
