The great thing about the 4cyl it will get you not enough power to break stuff unless you really try. And it will get you home

07 double cab 4x4, was getting 16.5 mpg, now over the exact same route, filling at the exact same pump at the exact same gas station, 17.9 mpg using a reusable air filter.

were the winds any different? wind affects my 2.7L mileage more than anything else.

I don't recall. I did the trip several times and was getting around 16.5, so I'm thinking that either it was very windy all of the times (possible, it's windy a lot in WI in the spring) or the filter made a difference (also possible).

Then you probably will love the new changes that are coming, for better or worse... the word "handbasket" comes to mind...

Well, I have already heard of some and it's very good news and I don't know what "handbasket "means but most people don't realize the real reason "why" the EPA" has been doing what it has been doing for over 30 years. I will say this. It has nothing to do with saving the planet. Even the original founder of "Greenpeace" made a public statement pointing out the fact that his organization was taken over by those "with a political agenda". He was eventually forced out because he really "did" care about the environment. Don't know if it's still the case but about 10 years ago Saudi Arabia was one of the biggest supporters and donators of Greenpeace. No one has to be a mental giant to figure out why.

You got that right. The wind will really affect mileage if you're driving straight into it. Just the other day I was coming home from work and wasn't paying attention until I noticed I could only do about 65 mph against the wind until I floored it. But I live in a state notorious for very high winds on a regular basis year around.

And can we please leave the politics out of this? What party is in power doesn't affect MPG.

Yes, as a matter of fact it does but I won't expound on the subject. Sorry about the slight political rant. I can't help myself sometimes. I'll refrain permanently in the future.

I am more than guilty when it comes to political rants, believe me. I just keep them on Facebook, where I can just annoy those closest to me! LOL

What I find unusual about my 5 lug dblcb is that huge range in driving conditions that effect MPGs. My 2004 Expedition got 13 around town and maybe if I babied it 15 on the hwy. My 2.7 with a leer cap and 235s my worst tank with generous math (adding 2mpg for bigger wheels and winter warm up time) was under 16mpg. Mostly very short trips. But if I get on the highway for most of the trip I have seen almost 21MPG. Either way I love the truck. I am O.K. with the power except when it cant maintain an uphill grade on the highway. I think the LCE header should help there.

K&N full intake. Catback exhaust system. Trailer hitch with 7 pin and 4 pin connectors. Bed liner, shell.
I purchased my 03 Tacoma brand new, it actually was still being assembled in Northern California. I paid cash because I knew I would be keeping it indefinitely. I have been around much of the US rain, sleet, snow and the truck performs great. Even with the upgraded K&N full intake and a catback system, my mileage isn't that great. It maybe increased by a couple of miles per gallon city/traffic and on the freeway it could be up to 25-26 MPG if I am nursing it on a long drive. It is not a race truck so I do not drive it like one, that is why it is still very nice. Also, mine is 4WD and I think that is an issue also, but it has been utilized. Basically, I have spent about 600-700 dollars to increase mileage a little bit. I think we just have to accept it, and enjoy our bitchen trucks.

That is precisely why I will get an LCE in the future when it's time to replace the exhaust system on my 2004. I suspect the torque curve lowered to a more reasonable RPM for us "putters" will help quite a bit out on the highway and trails for those 7-32% grades. It's the only performance upgrade I have read about for the 2.7 that actually produces real results.

A little late on this reply, but... I did not realize that a double cab 4x4 was available with the 4-cylinder in 2007. Is this right?

My '15 dcsb 4xr with the 4.0l got 23.5 mpg my last fill up. I have calibrated ultra gauge so its pretty close. Hence it wad mostly highway driving. Driving habits is key factor

    2014 DCSB 2.7, normal mpg since new has been 20 - 20.5
After 4 weeks of setting the cruise at 70 MPH max, I get a solid 22 mpg.
It's either the slower speed or the TRD skidplate I added. I'm guessing it's the lower speed.
Not bad, I added weight and got better MPG, win-win
