Too poor to list anything interesting.
    Southern Rim is nice

    As is the peak

If you want to do both, start before sunrise and bring lots of water.

We did the South Rim and Emory Peak trails on consecutive days - definitely a work out!

    Question for everyone....

I am planning to put the RTIC 45 behind my passenger seat as I have the rear seats removed and the backs folded down and to make it easier to unload and load the bed.

I was going to get some Dry Ice to put in the the RTIC plus some regular ice to keep it nice and cold for the trip as the RTIC will only be used for food (Meat for cheese steaks, cheese, onions, and lunch meat and maybe some drinks to to take up space and use later in the trip. All other drinks are going to be kept in a separate soft cooler.

I know you have to have ventilation for the Dry Ice... but do you think if I keep the ac to outside air and open the rear window here and there I wont die from CO2?

Yeah you'll be fine, I've slept in the cab with a cooler of dry ice before sealed up in the rain and I was good. If you crack a window and use the vent you'll be fine.

I'm no chemist, but to me that sounds like a bad idea. Perhaps its a non issue, but why risk it.

Also, do I need dry ice to keep my food frozen? Would anyone want to share coolers? I could store some of my frozen stuff in the dry ice one and others could store drinks and non frozen stuff in mine? If I need dry Ice i'll go get some on my way home, I just don't know where to get it.

By the way, I have RTIC 65. So if anyone needs extra cooler storage I should have plenty of room.

That is what I thought, it will not be opened a lot, I guess I will just watch for signs of too much CO2 and go from there, will see how the trip is tonight.

From what I have read that as long as you have fresh air coming in and proper ventilation I should be good. Heck, I can always move it to the bed any point while on the road.

    https://www.rticcoolers.com/cooler-care
    http://yeti.com/maximizing-ice-retention

But sure, if you want to throw your food in my cooler you can, and I can throw some of my beer in yours. Just really depends on how much room I have in the cooler... really wish I had a dang basket for the 45 to put the lunch meat and cheese in.

And I can get Dry Ice from the grocery store right down the road from me, going to get some after work. I have the 45 pre chilling right now with a frozen gallon of water.

I put frozen chicken in my cooler with only ice when I was there in Nov and it was still partially frozen 2 days later. I did prep my cooler by putting ice in it 10-12 hrs before I packed it with food and ice for the trip.

Yep, cooler is prepping right now. The cheese steak meat was in the freezer from midnight to 7am this morning, it is now in the fridge. So that should help.

Just don't want to risk it with not having easy access to ice out there and such.

Any members going that have a fridge they'd be willing to share to hold meat? Perhaps one hold meat and one hold beer?

This is what I was thinking. I don't think I can put all my drinks (water, sodas, beer) in with the dry ice for the meats. That would make a huge mess.

If you guys need more cooler space I could meet up with one of you today and let you borrow a 40 or 65 for the trip.

If you need ice, they do sell it in the park at a few places.

Damn. That's a bummer. Usually two fridges are all you need to make a camping trip for about 5-6 work.

Honestly, freezing meat before the trip may be an option to keep the temp down. But I'd suggest you plan on doing ice runs. Perhaps just take an ice chest to hold spare ice?

Yep, I only need the meat I have for Friday night.

Wish I had a fridge, would make all this a ton easier.

I am going to do the dry ice in my cooler and pack it well to get rid of air space. Can then transfer drinks to someone elses cooler and put meat in my cooler if needed.

Main concern for me is going to be the ice in the soft cooler and keeping what drinks I have cold.

You're only going to keep 4 beers cold at a time per person. Just keep rotating new ones in as you pull from the cooler.
