Let's see pics of the bonehead moments that hurt your taco

I've seen quite a few posts of some bonehead moments that left somebody's brand new Tacoma with some damage. Naturally, as I also did something stupid that resulted in damage, I felt much better knowing I wasn't alone.

    Let's see your mistakes!

I'll start'er off. It was 5:30AM and I was in the garage leaving to the gym. I got in the truck and started it up, hit the opener, and proceeded to put the truck in reverse. As I slowly rolled back I noticed that the warning lights on the dash for sonar were red rather than their usual yellow on one side due to the garage wall. I was literally out of it and just not thinking then I heard the scrape.

The garage door caught the lip of the bed and tailgate and continued opening to leave a nice gouge and scratch. Even to the metal in one spot.

Quotes said 1300 in damage, I "fixed" it with touch up paint and rubbing compound. At least for now.

Fortunately no damage to mine but definitely a bonehead move that made me alot more cautious and aware. Got my windows tinted and they parked my truck to do the job inside a garage but waaaay left of the door opening inside. They made me pull it out backwards diagonally to get it out of the garage, but the parking spaces in front of the garage were so close with cars in them I wasn't sure on my clearance. I ended up too far in a corner and hit a plastic sink that got caught on my predators steps thankfully. I jumped out and had them move it out of their garage for me since they have a lot more experience than I do with their layout.

Yep! That was my reaction too for the price. Each shop wanted to reprint the entire bed and quoted 1200 in labor. I said screw it I'll wait till there's a bigger incident. It still hurts when I notice the touch up though. Lol.

Ouch! I bet that one hurt. Are you going to get it repaired?

Hey at least you got a scare without the damage. Lol. This incident made me much more cautious as well. I've had older vehicles for years and never put a scratch but when I got this truck I've had many close calls.

We have an "in" in the bodyshop business so they may be able to help for a good price. Hoping its a buff out as much as possible sorta thing.
May just leave it, like you said until theres a bigger incident lol

It's just so damn noticeable on black.

Ouch, I recently did something very similar.....I backed into the garage, but not far enough, and the hinges on the garage door scraped the very front of the bumper as it came down.....I've got the textured base bumper, so I try not to look at it.

My bigger bonehead moment was the last time we went kayaking and the plastic pull handle on the front of the kayak bounced around on the roof for 65 miles and scratched the crap out of the paint. Didn't hear it because we had all the windows open and the music loud.....

Nice thing about the roof on a truck is? you can't see it!! LOL

Im just waiting for my bonehead moment to happen. Just got two sets of folding kayak carriers and the hardware on the underside is like 1/4" from the glass on my sunroof Im scared shitless I'm gonna pop up the moonroof and break the glass or something..

Not sure about the weight of your kayaks, but I know the bars on my aluminum bed rack get a little bit of flex in them when we have the tandem up there.

Yo, that's the first black 3rd gen Taco I've seen. I thought they didn't do that color.

When my truck was less than 2 weeks old, I pinstriped all my panels, both sides on a narrow brushy trail. Hard to see the extent of it in the pic, but you can see a bit just above the rear fender. Fortunately most of it fell in the door seam.

Probably makes some cringe to see scratches on a truck with dealer plates; I just figure the truck is being allowed to do what it was born to do. First of many I'm sure.

Completely serious. I've always coveted black tacos, but didn't see a single one when I was ready to buy and still haven't seen any on the road.

I gave my Taco it's first "trail damage" buy dropping the tailgate down on an Ikea shopping cart while I was loading the truck. Drives me freaking nuts to see it every time I walk by the truck.

Got a few stratches and a dent on the left side of the truck on the cab and bed, fixed the stratches and don't know when I'm getting around to fixing the dent. Only cost 50 bucks in parts and average cost that any body shop was asking was 1000+.

The first 3rd gen I test drove was black. I've owned several black vehicles, so yeah, I got a silver one. The black ones sure do look purty when they clean though.

This makes me happy. Lol. Ok so my truck didn't get scratched doing what it was made for BUT when I actually get some trail damage it won't be as hard to accept since I already broke it in.
