Certain sections of highways in NH are 70 mph and Maine has both 70 and 75 mph zones.

I guess living in Kansas they have to raise the speed limit to keep up with the tornadoes!

You are lucky not to have been driving in the 1970's when the government mandated all states post a maximum speed limit of 55 mph to conserve oil resources. The resulting traffic jams still haven't untangled!!! Any state that didn't comply lost federal funding.

I feel your mpg is unfair to many of us. My brother told me Kansas is flat as 8 year old female. In the northeast we have lots and lots of hills ( but not the mountains like out west ) but many hills up and down them up and down over and over with dangerous curves in places. Kills the mpg.

Years ago the desert road across Nevada had NO posted limit. I've heard stories of mighty semi rigs going wide open at over 140 mph. Now I've heard that road too has an 80 mph limit.

Drivers here in Connecticut do over 70 in a 50 mph zone and at least 80 in a 65. I just move over. Coming from NYC and Long Island after many years where you could never attain even 55 because of traffic. It took me a while to even drive 65. I hadnt driven that fast consistently for many years coming from NYC

Once I got a ticket for doing about 70 in a 55 for a short open stretch on Long Island. I went nuts on the county cop. I explained even with this short burst on my way home still the trip from work to home was 31 miles and it took me two hours just to go that far every night. So I was only averaging 15.5 mph overall. He didn't care. Gave me the ticket anyway.

If they made the speed limit 80 mph here tomorrow the survivors would be doing near 100.

In NYC the numerous accidents were all minor slow speed fender benders. Now here in Connecticut the accidents are high speed fatalities.

I used to live in Flushing NYC. Now we call it Floo- Shing. It's all Chinese and Korean. The area looks like downtown China. Really! Crowded!!!!! Going from your apartment exit onto the sidewalk you literally have to fall in to the mass of humanity on the sidewalk. All asians. Most wearing surgical masks. I'm not even exaggerating! The Asians can't drive. They cause an unbelievable amount of accidents but at such slow speed every one just get angry. Not hurt.
And they always seem never to crash with other asians; only us Caucasians. On the plus side the rich Asian kids all drive manual shift sports cars. Long live the manual. Rickshaw Ronee and his rice burning Acura or BMW. Ok by me. Dannyblues

I have a 2015 Pre-Runner, extended cab, V6, 4L and it only got 19.6 and 19.3 (using a calculator with miles divided by gallons) on a round trip to Nashville and back to Atlanta (just over 500 miles), cruising between 80-85 MPH most of the way with maybe an hour of rush-hour driving. I'm guessing some of those high MPG numbers are 4 cyl. or 55 MPH cruisers

I learn something new everyday! I guess I've never been on those roads. I will say as far as New England is concerned the drivers Massachusetts drive the fastest. And worst. They have a bad habit of passing real fast on your right side and often just barely miss your front passenger side front fender.

Late one night I was on 495 going to Lowell. I was doing 80 in a 73 Plymouth Duster with a 225 slant six. At 80 mph I was pushed into the far right granny lane. They were doing 100 in the passing lane.

Except for New Jersey they are the worst drivers in the north east. New Jersey is in a class of its own as far as dangerous bad drivers. Years ago a kid of 16 could get a license. Lots of fatalities with teens then. Dannyblues

My MPG sucks for these reasons...

    75mph in a manual, I'm running 2600 RPM at 75. I get between 15 - 18mpg consistently.

Western Kansas is flat. Eastern Kansas is NOT. The drive up the turnpike between Wichita and Kansas City, especially in the flint hills and near Lawrence has some nasty elevation changes.

The Great Plains are notorious for winds. In the spring and fall a 20-25mph sustained with gusts up to 40 or 50 is typical. Kills MPG as well. I've gotten into several arguments with guys on here saying that their 3rd gen AT works fine and they can't understand why I'm having issues.

Hills, wind, and high speed... not good bedfellows.

That's not bad at that high speed. My mpg drops after 60 mph on up. Plus that short trip with heavy traffic. I guess I'd be lucky to get the same as you under those circumstances

Agree. Thanks for the geography lesson. I really enjoyed picturing it in my mind.

My wife recently more than once pointed out, as wives are won't to do, that I'm consistently too close to either one side or the other in my lane. I began to notice that unlike all the little low jap sports models I'd owned for so many years this first truck really is affected by wind. That's what's causing my lane drift. It takes a wife to notice these things. Gives us some thing new to argue about. Dannyblues

If you ever find yourself out here and miss home, drive 20 minutes north of KCI to Weston Missouri... you'll think you're in the Maryland countryside!

Sounds beautiful. I've always dreamed of a four year USA road trip. Six months each year. See the country. Meet the people. Try the local foods. Not the tourist traps. I mean the real localities. I've only seen Kansas wheat fields on the weather channel

I'm on a cross country road trip and I may have just hit a record (or at least close) for a Taco... Filled up the tank & got an observed 26.7 MPG!:ohsnap:
    456.1 Miles on 17.069 Gallons

Yesterday my tank average was 24 MPG even, that included about 1/3 tank of around town- 417.4 Miles on 17.384 Gallons

This is in a 2016 4 Cylinder, 4x2 SR with the 6AT, using regular fuel.
I put the air dam back on, used the stock tires on aftermarket 16" wheels, and I've got a bestop on the truck with the bed loaded with tires, jack stands, clothing, tools, etc... the cabin is stuffed to the tits with items as well. Maybe 500 pounds in the bed and another 200 (plus me) in the cab?

Uhh what else... I have the LCE header and a slight lift (1.5")...

I was on 81 south for all of this, so it's not like I was cruising across the plains. Kept a steady pace between 60-70 MPH, chilled out in the right lane, and watched the miles go by.

One of the few pictures to really capture it. As you're looking at them with the naked eye you'd swear it was a painting.

I haven't even run through a half a tank on my truck yet. So far, it's showing 18.4 MPG average.
Not sure how accurate that is. My commute is 19.5 miles one way. Morning traffic is stop/go near my house, then again near work. Only about 15 of those miles is smooth sailing (65-75 MPH). In the evening, there's only about a 3-4 mile stretch where I can cruise at about 65 MPH.

I started a fuelly account and I'll try to keep it up.
I had a fuelly account for my last truck (2012 Silverado), but never used it. I hand calculated almost every tank and it was usually 14-15 MPG. Best I ever got out of that truck was right at 18 MPG.
