Or have the specialist fix the issue. Then report back here so when we go in (to Toyota) we can say "look what this guy did to fix the issue". Maybe?

Or better yet--change the diff fluid DIY and warranty voided. Did not make this mistake and it was a good thing because they sent a sample of my diff fluid to a lab before replacement.

What about a go-fund me account? A couple of dollars from all that has the noise should be sufficient. We elect a well known forum member that has a specialist in his area and is willing to take the time for the process. It would end the speculation.

Think this is a great idea. I would also want the buzzy RPM vibration included.

I should be having my 8.75 regeared by the end of the month, I can ask for the shop to run a pattern check, and check the backlash before they tear it apart. Taking donation now, lol.

I have a slight howl as well, nothing that really bothers me, but it is for sure there. Had I paid 40k for my truck, then yeah, I'd probably care a little more.

Me personally, I'd be trying different fluids if I was on my 2nd diff from Toyota with the same issue. As long as the oil you put in it meet Toyota's minimum spec, you can put whatever the F you want in it.

Since you mentioned oils, I looked at my R/O and noticed the dealer used #3 75W140, in the rear diff part number 00289-75140. In the front diff which also failed they used #2 75W90 part number 7919100609. All is now quiet.

Wow, the book calls for 75w-85, they must have just put whatever they had in.

My book does state 75w85 in both the front and rear. They were deliberate about it and felt the oil was too thin that they took out and sent to a lab. The transfer case was clean.

After installing a brand new front and rear diff the howl is
completely gone. The front diff was grinding and groaning--dealer said it was not the needle bearing, but a shredded case. 90 % highway miles. They also said this was the second truck they fixed recently. Said it happens in Tundra, Tacoma, T4R and the old FJ

I very much want to do this. If I had a local Transmission or gear shop that I trusted I would save up, pull the rear diff pod and drop it off to them to investigate and resolve.
My fear is that after driving 6000kms as is that the ring and pinion gear may need to be replaced.
I have no clue though, i'm not a pro.

I am on my second shop... first one convinced me I was mentally imbalanced for having them take a swing at fixing it since its under warranty. The second shop quoted me $150 to open the diff and look, $1500-2000 for a rebuild and "blue print" of the diff, somewhere "in-beteween" to do a single point fix. Much higher than when I had them do diff work on on my Land Rover. Suspect they quoted the moon to make me go away. Too rich for my blood at this point.

Another plug: if you are having this symptom make sure to let Toyota customer service know. Letting your dealer know is not sufficient as many of them don't bother to forward information back to Toyota (a point of frustration for Toyota it seems).

I also have been working with corporate on this. They are scheduling me with a local dealership to have this done. I told them that I have a 3rd party scheduled on the 21st and corporate asked me to give them a chance, so they are trying. I sent them the service procedure outlined in a previous post. So, we'll see. I'll certainly post up the results.
