Why doesn't anyone own an SR5?

Bought my second SR5 4x4 in January, a 2017. Personally, I do not need a push button start or other upgraded tech pieces. SR5's smaller tires get better gas mileage and are cheaper to replace when worn out. I use my truck as a truck taking to our cabin and around the mountains, also to get me to work in the Pa snow. Plus my stock grill looks better than a sport or OR grill. Each to their own and thanks to Toyota for giving us choices! P.S. Will upgrade to 5100s like my 2010 had.

 

I paid $29.9K before TT&L for a 2016 DCSB V6 4X4 SR5 with Tow. They are a little more expensive this year, but 30K for used is too much.

 

Agreed on the used. My 2017 $34583 sticker, bought for $32800 before TT&l.

 

down here in Texas all Toyotas are a few K$ more expensive.

 

I got the sport because it is the only model you can get the V6, 4x4, access cab and manual in US.

I might be wrong but it seems that 3rd Gen Tacos are cheaper, I bout my 2015 SR5 for 32K out the door it was around 35K for a TRD OR, right now it seems that you can get an Off Road without the tech package in manual for 32K, with the locker being the biggest benefit to that. The tech-package is nice, but I think the navigation is the most useless feature, Toyota needs to allow us to display the navigation from our phones. The navigation app slow and too cumbersome to use, I can get the place and get directions going in probably 15 seconds on google maps, plus it displays the routes that I can take and show me where I'm on a map in those instance if I only need to use the nav to get me part way. You can't do that with the Nav app, you gotta spend a long time manually punching in the address or the place, it gives you route option but you have no idea if its actually the fastest route, a new highway thats by me is not even displayed. Very old technology, having a smart phone and a mount is much easier.

The only great thing about the built in nav is that it gives you direction warning right in your drivers dashboard. I hope for the 18MY they allow to pair your phone nav apps to the entune and lets us upgrade our Entunes to that.

 

I think it depends on where you're located, though in 2015 the TRD OR I was looking at was stickered at $36k, but my 2017 I purchased this year was sticked at nearly $41k before price slashing (got it for $38K).

 

On the TRD models, Navi is not part of the tech package. On the sr5, it is an upgraded package to get built in Navi... Otherwise you have the crappy scout GPS. I just use gmaps. Most of the time I don't need to see a map anyway, but can always just turn my phone screen on if I need to.

 

MT why? MXing after rock crawling? It's not a sports car. Becoming one with the road....really, in a truck?

For me it's more fun. I do feel more connected to the truck. I even rev match when I downshift for corners sometimes, because it's a sports truck...

I know automatics are technically better (well, maybe not for the 3rd gen) but the clutch is more rewarding for me. I'll drive stick till it's no longer an option.

 

Because in the good old USA . You make the money to buy what you want with the money thats the way it is . Fuck everybody else's opinion.

 

I would've been happy with an SR5 if I could get it with a manual. I actually had a hard time trying to decide between an SR or a TRD model. I had to go out of state to get a manual. Decided to get an OR because the price I got was $1,500 less than 2 local dealers were willing to go on an SR5 (which I would've had to settle for auto). Up until my Tacoma arrived last week, I hadn't owned a manual in about 12 years. Feels good to be driving one again. Wife thinks it's stupid though. She's lucky I couldn't find a quicksand. She hates that color. Lol

 

I didn't get a sr5 for two main reasons, wanted rear locker and powered slider. Add in the fact I got my trd or for less than people are paying for some sr5 prices posted in this thread and I'd say I'm happy.

Ultimately though, either model (I also looked at a sport but quickly eliminated it) would have been great. The nice thing about Toyotas is that if a model or vehicle has something that you want but don't have, it's not terribly difficult to install.

If I had it to do over I'd probably just go sr with stick and 4x4 and add what I needed as I went. Instead I bought what I wanted.

 

@BlakeM I ordered mine, took 6 months and they had to trade a Jersey dealership. Would have loved the locker in the off road, but I did not want the DC.

But like @Lt. Dangle said it's easy to add stuff later. So far I haven't needed a locker, but I'm still new to off roading and cautious.

 

I got an SR5 and love it. I wanted a 4 cylinder automatic. It has a little more horesepower than my 2001 Ranger 6 cylinder and the fuel efficiency is significantly better.

Since Toyota makes it difficult to figure out what's what with all the 29 variations that include 3 engine types, it forces one to prioritize what features are really important to have and which one's are nice to have.

I actually wanted the 4 cylinder engine with the automatic transmission. So far after 5 months it's been an absolute joy to ride around in.

My needs were simple and I was looking to replace essentially a mini-truck. I have to say my SR5 meets and exceeds my expectations so far.

 

Because they are the cool yellow !
