I was trying to find out why my hood wasn't closing properly. Didn't find the reason but found some other crap....

    So to start off:

The long travel has been on for only a couple hundred miles.
I drive like an asshole off road.
    At 50000mi-ish
    Battery still in stock location.

I know the sheet metal under the battery has a tendency to rip for people running LT for awhile. Most of the reports that I've seen of the battery ripping sheet metal was right under the battery support. But this rip is outside along the edge of the sheet metal a bit away from the battery support area. So I have the following questions:

Has anyone seen their wheel well rip in this location?
If so did you find the exact cause?
Anyone with experience fixing shit like this have a recommendation on how to repair it?

I have rips there on both sides and I'm not LT. I posted a thread a while back, but no one had any input. It happened before I installed my arb bumper or any skids and sliders and I was hitting the dunes harder than I should have. After adding the extra weight it just kept cracking away, even after drilling a hole to stop it.

Here's my eventual bandaid fix. Flattened the area out and welded on a piece of 16ga steel.

What's the preferred method to fix/stop this, put a piece of sheet metal in and reinforce it like yeos?

Depends on the owner. I'm of the "fuck it" mentality. It's thin 18 gauge formed sheet metal IIRC. Plate it if you want, but just drilling and welding over the top won't stop it from happening again.

I changed my bushings and will let them run until I move my battery and want them to look like they arent there. But I will prob just leave them because they aint hurtin nobody.

Did they stop propagating on their own or did they just get continuously worse over time?
