Today I started to work with front differential. I put some paint on it, then I noticed that the actuactor vent tip was broken.
    20170408_130529.jpg

So I bought a hose tip, cut the tip, drilled into the housing and put it toguether with a strong epoxy mix.
    20170408_134425.jpg
    20170408_181133.jpg
In the process, I got a broken bolt out of actuactor housing, that is a hell of another story.
    20170408_133106.jpg

    Then, change oil seals.
    20170408_171842.jpg

And put everything toguether to set this babe in its new home. ( while putting it up, I had to take breather hose metal clamp apart because it was interfering with the process.)

    20170408_181141.jpg
Now it's up there, it was not an easy task for me, mostly because vent hoses were interfering, then putting it again with carrier up was not posible, so I had to maneuver and do a lot of trial and error to get this up with vent hoses. But finally it's in its place.

When you took the cover off the actuator did you take the gears and torsion spring out of actuator?

Only took the "brown gear" out.

I had a hell of a time indexing that gear correctly back into the housing. There's no indication for the correct timing. If it's not in correctly the contacts on the gear won't be timed correctly to the contacts on the cover. This causes a couple problems. If it's too far one way, it will bottom out before the diff is engaged. If it's too far the other way, it won't correctly cut power to the actuator when the diff is fully engaged.

Just a heads up. Took me awhile to figure out that this was even the issue. Then it took trial and error to get it fixed.

But it happens because you took the torsion spring out right?

If I recall correctly it's because I changed the timing of the big brown gear (one with the metal contacts) relative to the gear that moves the actuator arm. I think the spring only goes back in one way. But the gear can be off by several teeth and it's not obvious until it's not working right.

Why not? It's a really fun project and parts are getting cheaper as the truck gets older. The 1st gen guys do it all the time and more and more second gen are doing it too.

Not at all. There's a big market for used automotive parts.

Today goal is to put that A750F up.
Edit: local toyota dealer wanted 28.42 per quarter of ATF WS standard, so, will look for Valvoline max life ATF, but althought I put it up today I won't be able to fill it till next weekend.
