Retrofit splash shields

Since my skirts/shields that cover the exhaust manifold and engine bay area were falling apart and 1 was missing, this guy here had just the thing.

These new shields are HEAVY (4lbs shipped), so I used bolts, fender washers and nylocks to support the TOP of them since this supports weight. I used clips on the bottom for easy access since they dont carry weight and your dealing with FRAME holes on most of the bottom slots (try getting a nut and washer in the rail)

Start by raising the front of the truck to allow the wheels to droop using jack stands to bear the weight of the truck.

Then start removing old shields, and place the new ones in place. Start fastening the top CENTER area and work your way to the ends.

Use a washer on each side like I have pictured.

1 to keep the shields from tearing by providing a large surface area, and another on the other side of the bolt to butt up against the trucks panels. (I hope that makes sense).




Passenger side I had to use a clip on the hole at about 2 oclock, because theres a wire bundle pretty close to being rubbed by the bolt on the engine bay side.

I have a 2006 TRD offroad.... you may or may NOT have this problem.



Also passenger side, this spot has no hole in the trucks wheel well to anchor to... AGAIN, could be trim model specific.


Tools used: (just what I happend to use, YMMV and Im going off of memory here)

Air ratchet (nobody likes to snug nylocks by hand)
ratchet:
1/4" for a few tight spaces

open/box 11mm or.............. (7/16) if using same hardware I have listed
an open end will be needed on 1 or 2 areas iirc

either a helper, or long arms and a few LONG extensions for your ratchets.

rivet/clip tool

sockets: 11mm or 7/16 again if u got the same hardware I listed


I THINK thats it.


I suggest using SOME kind of alternative clips for the bottom section like I have listed, as the OEM clips will NOT work, they are too short IMHO to hold. There was no satisfactory "click" when I tried to secure them with the custom shields. Your money, your truck tho. Will there be mechanical damage? maybe not....... but at the least, them flopping around may start tearing remaining support areas due to stress.

Nice install bro! Your before & after looks like night & day. Glad you used the panel popper it makes the install so much easier and going with the Christmas tree clips does give that "clicking satisfaction". Would love to see it on the streets from afar, bet it looks a lot cleaner in the wheelwells now. Overall, great job
