yes, that's why it would be a good idea to take an issue like the howling to an independent shop to even just a test drive to see what they think the issue is, before even dismantling it at owners cost. just listening to it I think a good drive/axle mechanic could pin point where a problem could be, if in fact he deems a problem with it

There have been a few failures on here and several threads on the noise. Some threads just yesterday were about guys going to independent gear shops. It does seem Toyota is aware as they have swapped out several and are working on a solution. Probably just a Vendor issue but no idea how many have been pumped out or even which ones, right now it seems mostly confined to the OR and hopefully they get it ironed out.

I'm a little slow. Took me 13 months in the Colorado to reach the same conclusion. Taco's not perfect by a long shot, but overall I'm happier in it.

My Sport MT has it... I don't often drive 60mph though so I hardly ever hear it.

That's right, the MTs also have the 8.75" Rear, my bad on that.

I like that they are recommending the MT over AT. Why are the knocking the interior? The interior looks awesome to me! Then again, I came into the Taco world from an '04 Dakota... And there are plenty of tech features available... Bluetooth, BSM, Cruise, Wireless charging, touch screen, voice control.... what more do you want? And the interior is "utilitarian"? No shit, that's why I got it!

it seems to be pin pointed to the TRD Offroad Auto trans model only if im not mistaken that narrows it down significantly. im sure if I owned one and felt I wasn't getting any traction from Toyota Corp on it and was loosing sleep over it, I would at the very minimum take it to a well qualified independent shop and have a test drive done, im surprised this hasn't been done by someone yet to be honest.

Those are awesome! If they came in 4wd I would jump on one! I'm a manual, 4x4, bare bones type of guy. My favorite truck I've ever owned was a 95 Toyota 4x4(pre-Tacoma)

Curious as to why they felt compelled to write a 2017 specific article when there is literally 0.1% difference between the 2016 and 2017.

Because of the sales numbers? Reading the C&D articles from last year and this year, it appears like this is less of a review and more of an investigation; they can't believe people are still buying this truck when there's a "perfectly good" Chevy out there as another option.

Thank god. That nanny shit is annoying and the Tacoma already has too much.

Neither do I, I was simply referring to the interior, not rest of truck. I also think the interior of the Colorado is crap as well, it was the only major point I didn't agree with in the article.

Interestingly enough, they did hit on my biggest complaint with the 3rd get Tacoma that I've not seen many complaints about here. That's the brakes. I find them too "grabby" and have very little feedback at light / normal braking. Reading through the information, I'm assuming this is due to the nanny stuff trying (incorrectly) to detect panic braking and applying more pressure than you actually are.

I got a lot from the article. They complained that there is no massaging seats, steering wheel warmer, and limited ping pong ball storage.

Just read that Car & Driver is based out of Ann Arbor. Seems natural to be bias for anything coming out of Detroit.
