Get a spring over done on that thing and the look will be perfect with your truck (and be much more capable)

I was thinking that when I was looking over everything. I might do that over next winter, haha. Just gotta get the girl onboard with the idea.

Two horse aluminum slant load horse trailer. The Tacoma works great and is perfect for this trailer

I'm actually hiring a boat dealer to move my little 19' pontoon from one lake to another. I just don't feel like my 2017 SR5 DCSB V6 is up to the task. I can't believe some of the stuff you guys tow around. I'm amazed but maybe I'm just paranoid.............

When I was a kid we hauled the 21' pontoon boat with a '90 4Runner that had a 22RE. But, if you aren't comfortable doing it, don't.

whats the trailer total weight? short haul, I'd have no issue towing up to around 6000 lbs, as long as you make sure you account for the tongue weight in your truck's total payload capacity (1000 lbs including driver for the DC, 1200 for the AC.... oh, my numbers are for gen2, I dunno gen3).

I towed it with my 2011 Silverado Crew Cab that I traded in on my Tacoma. That truck lugged it around almost like it wasn't back there but it would burn a quart of oil every hour, hence the reason I got rid of it.

I'm used to towing stuff. I have several trailers of different lengths. I just don't feel like the Taco can handle it. I just don't feel like it has enough power or weighs enough. I researched the towing capacity of the Tacoma before I bought it and thought it would handle what I tow but after having it for 6 months I just don't feel like it's strong enough for that. My little 5x8 trailer makes it shake and vibrate like crazy EMPTY. When I toss a 500 lb load on it, the truck just acts like it's a boat anchor. I rarely went anywhere in my old Chevy without that little trailer tied to it. That trailer probably has 30K miles on it alone.

The boat and trailer probably don't weigh in excess of 4500 lbs (and I'm estimating HIGH). I think the boat when new was listed at 2500 lbs. The trailer is steel so figure 1500 lbs. I'm adding 500 lbs for "stuff".

I need to move my boat about 130 miles to another lake across some small hills. Not feeling that trip with the Taco at all.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't have the confidence in the Taco that I had in the Silverado even though the Taco has basically the same tow rating.

Wasn't putting your abilities in question. Comfort can be personal or vehicle (ability or reliability). What I meant is that if you are not comfortable with the trucks ability to do the job, don't try to force it to.

Try it, Tacomas are tougher than you think. I pull a horse trailer with mine. I'm up there around 5000lbs. Everything's safetied, good brakes etc. I take it easy and it works great. I rarely get above 3000rpm.

Small load today. Wish I would have took pics of some of the bigger loads I've hauled. But it was always dark.

Towed this trailer weighing 5800lbs 1,200 miles round trip. Equipped with Sumo Springs and Tekonsha Brake Controller. Would not have towed this big trailer loaded without that equipment

Do you have the auto transmission? If so do you manually shift it and stay at 5 or below?

I do have the auto. I kept it in 4th. Sometimes, very rarely, I'd try 5 when going downhill. Kept cruise control off to minimize gear hunting.

Ok cool. Thanks. That's kinda what I'm finding out with my boat. The manual says 5 but that would just bog me right on down unless I was doing 75.

I tried to keep my speed about 75 unless in more congested traffic. Wanted to give myself plenty of space even with the brake controller. Have too many idiots that want to pull right in front of you without warning.
