Toyota is absolutely insane about their loyalty to customers and high quality claims. They shout it from the roof tops. Toyota pride. But when it comes down to the reality of backing up all that pride with actual quality and truck industry leadership it all comes down to the bean counters in accounting whose main and only interest is in cash profits. No lie. Dannyblues

At your height and I hope not additional extra weight I'm surprised you could have fit comfortably in those old rice burners you had or in the 3 Rd gen Tacoma. I'm 67, and a thin 5'7 " guy and I feel I'm about the maximum comfortable size for this truck ( and still I can't wear my cowboy hat !! Yeee-Hahh).

Seems like you prefer speed over utility.
I bought the 2016 TRD sport 4x4 double cab with manual transmission for several reasons not just because I wanted one so much which I did.

But was it practical and necessary and affordable?

My wife and I needed a full size car ( for the grandchildren mostly ).

We also needed an AWD or 4 WD vehicle. ( when I checked out such regular CARS they ran about $28,000 plus )
We live in an area known as Litchfield hills in New Milford Connecticut where winters can make driving conditions difficult and even a normal front wheel only drive car often can't make it up the several hills to our house 1000' above sea level. ( I did say hills not mountains- lots and lots and lots of them up, down and severely curvey ).

And we needed a part time truck for the dump, local recycling farm and Home Depot runs. ( I had been renting Uhaul trucks and Uhaul was a distance away too ).

And I demanded a vehicle with a manual transmission and no diesels.

So the Tacoma TRD sport double cab 4 x4 with six speed manual and optional towing package became ( thank God!! ) the sensible choice. As far as any AWD or 4 WD vehicle especially trucks go it was a bargain at $32,000 - total about $36,000 after all the paperwork, additional options and personal additions.

I think you should approach your next vehicle the same way. What do you really want? Does it work for you now and in the near future? Remember although babies take 9 months to arrive in the meantime your growing pregnant old lady may not appreciate having to grab the passenger side pull me up handle to get wedged into a passenger seat. ??

    Maybe a Subaru Outback
would work for you ... or a turbo Subaru Forester or a bigger truck like the Tundra ( with some power additions to the V8) or an easily upgraded full size Chevy, Ford or Dodge truck? Maybe another sports car?

May I ask why you went from sports cars to a truck I assume with a manual transmission anyway ? They are always going to be slower and will never be able to drive in an aggressive manner like a sports car. If you've put sports cars behind you and are contemplating starting a family you may have to rethink your wants vs your needs.
Best of luck to you, the Mrs and the kids whenever. And real best of luck on that last one

I have three grandchildren. I should have had them first.

Aren't they quicker in the 1/4 than the truck they replaced?

Well, the 3rd gen is a little bit bigger and heavier truck.

same for me. I started to "figure out" how to make it work, but considering it's not exactly proven yet, I'll wait. hell truck isn't even a month old and only has 1400 miles on it... lol

I'll have to hold out for the handheld... That way I can reset the ecu to stock it at will.

Hopefully that is in the works.

I'm kinda surprised that automobiles are CARB approved :anonymous:

After all, CARB tried to legislate non-existent technology into existence with their mid 90's ZEV mandate. :D

I think they do have a solution for that too apparently. See link below. You could switch back to eco, city mode when/if you got to do your smog test passed, and roll and rip at tuned performance with a better torque profile geometry.

I don't think pedalcommander does the same thing as the OVTuned reflash.
