How does every transport their rods? Usually I just rig up once I get to the river, but I also move spots and bodies of water and don't want to break down my rod.

Right now, I just rest my reel on my dash and open the rear window and let them hang out the back.

Any good DIY or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I don't even do that. I have a long bed and put the real end in one of the front corners and angle it out the back with gate up. My gate is rino lined so it is soft against the rod. I've traveled the full width of the state with my Orvis rod stored like this.

Went out for an hour today, no luck. Water is high and muddy from the rain last week.

Sounds like optimal brown shark conditions :)

If I don't have to travel too far or too fast I place the rods under the windshield wiper. Never had an issue with a rod falling off.

Have any of you Carolina guys fished Hazel Creek before? I am thinking about a weekend trip out there soon but I wanted to know if anyone had any advice on fishing or how to get there. I'm normally an "easy-access" kind of person, so fishing a remote area like this will be new to me. I'm not opposed to a long hike, but I'd like to know what to expect. I have this map from a guide and I have a gazette around somewhere that might show a little more about the area. It looks like the shortest walk in is to follow the Lakeshore Trail from Fontana Dam, still a pretty good hike. Another option is to kayak in from Cable Cove but I'm not sure how I feel about leaving my kayak for a couple days and how conditions might be on the lake. I'm not sure how well transporting much gear on my kayak will be either.

Never fished Hazel, but I think you can get a boat to shuttle you across the lake. Not sure how much it costs or when it runs, but may be something to look into.

The same shit everyone else has.
Remote PITA to get to streams are the best. I love humping around the woods for 4 miles just to get to a stream.

Ill roll up the back window on my Bestop and lay them in the bed. I do plan on building some sort of "rack" to hold them from banging around in the back. Or maybe add some rod holders to my roof rack.

I'll do some research on that, I'd just be worried about missing the pick-up time and having to stay another night.

Box on the left is two sided and is size 6 & 8 mostly - for smaller streams & rivers. Box on right are the big boys size 2 & 4 - "chuckin meat" as is said!

Aren't the "meat chuckers" more for late season? o_O Or do they work well in the spring too with the right conditions?

I do best in spring before the major hatches have kicked off. When fish are hungry and looking to fatten up after winter.

    excellent.
I got such a late start in a really shitty water season.
I am so looking forward to spring fishing!
