Update on the leaf spring ordeal, so i went back to Toyota to speak to one of the Techs today and he tried to feed me nothing but bullshit! Yesterday the service gal told me that the new leafspring wouldnt fit without the tech removing the 3" blocks and U bolts so it made no freaking sence and i went and spoke to the Technician today and he tried to tell me that it would fit but it would be extra labor! I went off on the guy and pretty much told him to install the new leafs and i would take care of the rest of the work at home! I actually told him that if it was too much work for him to handle i would go in there and show him how its done! Since when does putting a 3" block under the leaf and securing it with the U bolts extra work? Fu**ing ridiculous

I haven't done the recall yet. It keep getting called by the dealer to do it. I'm not really itching to do it since there have been so many bad experiences ( more sag, techs doing shoddy work, repeatedly having to go back, etc.) with this whole leaf replacement thing.

This is why we call them stealerships. You may know how full of shit that statement was but guess what, most of the millions of other owners do not.

In 2012 th springs were changed from 2+1 overload to 3+1 overload so you are getting an upgrade and they also are new so you'll get more life and better rebound out of them

The only problem might be you would need new ubolts if they have to cut them but that's the only issue I could see. Also I would say do the recall. They recall the parts for a reason and you get an extra leaf...

They shouldnt have to cut them since i've only had the lift kit for about 6 months, so no rust or corrosion on the ubolts for them to have to cut them! I guess i should just expect the worst from them!

Just got back from the Toyota dealer in Fremont Ca. I had this appointment since January for the recall of the rear leafs springs. After going through the trouble of
switching batteries with my camper spare, now a day I'm not using the truck to much, I was informed that the technicians will take a look at my springs and if needed they will order me a new set. This is what? 2 years since I am informed that I need to have them changed, 1 year since I was there and informed that they'll let me know when the parts will be available. Now what? I told the guy that I should of be in Barcelona and watch my friend Messi and this subject is closed for me, Period.

PS just file a complaint with NHTSA and two hours later I've got a message from Toyota. Monday morning I'll meet the factory rep. at the dealer. Stay tuned.

Well, finally got the stupid word from Toyota........they will not reimburse you for replacing your crap 3 leaf packs unless you took it to their dealership to have it done. They are denying my reimbursement because I am the one who swapped in a 2014 set that are the same as the recall set being done now. There was no official recall when I did this. So, I will be putting my 3 leaf packs back on and instead of reimbursing me the $300 I spent for the oem 4 leaf packs and nothing for my labor, they can eat the $1200 or whatever for new set plus labor plus alignment that it will cost them to perform the recall themselves.........stupid fuckers should have told me no reimbursement for doing it yourself when I opened the case over the phone instead of taking my documentation, beating off for a month then sending me a letter asking me for work orders and invoices and shit from having them do it. I told them what I had done when I talked to them opening the case. Super fucking retarded. So is spending $1200 on parts/time when they could throw $300 at me and be done.

They could have been reasonable about it and had me visit a dealer to confirm that the right leafs are on there and all is good before paying me back but nooooo, so I will spend their money and make them do the recall anyway...at their place, at their much larger expense....................

Understand your frustration. But since it's a safety recall the GOV is involved which is why they need evidence that a certified tech did the work, not a shade tree mechanic (not to knock your skills...)

I see that point..........to a point but who cares how they got there as long as the right ones are there. Again, they could have me go to a dealership to have a "certified" person look at it to make sure it's all good. OR put it in the fucking recall letter that only work you paid for and had done by certified techs at one of their locations will get you reimbursed. That is the bigger problem I have with it.

Oh dealerships are so much fun aren't they? Every time they get a new service rep I have to tell them not to change my rear springs as I have OME Dakars on there already. I also use a silver Sharpie and write "DO NOT CUT" on my gas pedal every time I take it by there. I had one new guy start to argue with me and tell me they had to cut my pedal and I told him I'd burn the dealership to the ground if they did. I'm on friendly terms with the service manager and he was nearby and heard the whole conversation. He's familar with my truck and was laughing when he told the new guy it was fine as my pedal did not contact my Husky liners. The silver Sharpie wears off quickly but I like to remind them to leave it alone. ;)
