Probably how Toyota is looking at it... since not a safety issue they can wait it out like they've been doing and wait and see how soon the failures start happening .... again if at all. Not a lot of failures it will be dealt with on an individual basis.... my guess since this is nothing new is they won't do anything about it and it will be on an individual (meaning does the dealer want repeat business from this one customer) basis. Food for thought @smitty99

Toyota has given a statement regarding the issue.

    The statement is "WOOOOOOOOOOOO WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

It would just be nice if they confirmed what's causing it or if its even a mechanical issue.

In the thread about it started by smitty there's a few post about how toyota has concluded its just noise that its not the gears and that everything is ok mechanically.

Given the amount of differentials they've pulled and likely looked into so far, they must know what's causing it. So its either like they say nothing mechanically wrong, or its something that will fail down the line out of warranty so they do not care to fix it.

I am. Case manager is working with regional engineering to get me in at the local dealership. If they can't fix it, I have an appointment at a local gear shop to troubleshoot.

If you have it during Deceleration, When fethering off the throttle as most it's specified in the beginning of the article I posted...

Well, the preload backing off as described in the article could explain why several of us developed the howl over time.. and possibly also why some replacement diffs began howling. Does the stock 8.75" rear use a crush sleeve? Anyone? Bueller?

Yes It uses a crush sleeve, but it only contributes to the total preload.

Yep, but it does it when you accelerate or decelerate, as long as you do so lightly while the vehicle speed is in a certain range (~55-60mph for me).
