I have a 2017 3rd Gen TRD DLCB sport. I posted in the suspension forum, but have not gotten much response. I have a Pro Comp 6" lift. The front coil overs are Hitachi. I am wanting to upgrade for a more comfortable on road ride. Some people says Kings and Fox might be over kill. Is it over kill if you have the money? Chime in if you have upgraded your suspension and how was the difference.

You have a 6 inch Pro Comp lift and factory shocks? Basically any shock would be an improvement.
You might want to give more information: budget, use, terrain and so on.
I'm planning on going Bilstein 6112/5160, as much as I would like the Kings it's a little over kill for how often I actually make it off roading.

Get rid of that 6" lift.
    Install OEM TRD Off-Road suspension.

    BOOOO! You're no fun!

@smikels Find out what FOX shocks the BDS kit uses and buy those, I'd bet it will do wonders.

Well I thought I was clear, but hear goes. I have no budget. I am be driving the truck on pavement. I want the best ride for crap pavement roads. I don't think it has the stock suspension as I do not think you can lift it 6" and use the same coilovers. However it does have the stock brand coilovers on it. If I do take it off roading which I do plan on eventualy I will be good to go. I doubt people who buy this truck are ONLY offroaders. Otherwise it would be kind of dumb to spend this kind of money for that. Unless I am wrong and there are a bunch of people that trailer their Tacoma to places to off road only.

Thanks but no thanks. I would have just bought a truck that wasn't lifted if this was what I was looking for and kept stock rims and tires.

I have heard good things about Fox as well. I read a thread saying that Kings and Fox were some of the best. I just wanted to state what I was looking for since I am new to lifting and such.

Don't they need to cut out a crossmember for a 6" lift?
I think you're kind of committed...

You can use the STOCK Hitachi shocks(coilovers) with the pro comp 6" lift - it just puts a big ass spacer on top.

To get the best ride I'd suggest King, Fox, or Icon coilovers designed to work with a 6" lift. But since you say you have no budget that probably isn't an option.

For free options to get a better ride quality, experiment with tire pressures.

You could look to get a middle of the road coilover? When I had my first gen I had a fabtech 6 inch lift that I later upgraded to extended sway away coils. Made it ride soooo much better overall. I think they are moderately priced compared to kings and I think you can get them without resi's which I don't think you will need if you are only on-road.

Ok i understand now. Yeah that is probably what they did then. When I mean there is no budget I mean't to say money was no object or concern.

You can install a 6" drop bracket lift and keep the stock springs and shocks, which is exactly what it sounds like the previous owner did to your truck. Best bet at this point is to get some Kings and hope for the best. It still may not ride stellar but it'll be alot better than it is now.

I would call to verify, but if those fit for the 2005-2017 Tacoma then you should be good. From what I understand, Toyota didn't change the suspension at all from the second to the third gen.

I think dirtlogic makes a set of front coil overs that are long enough to remove the front spacer. You might look into those.

What do you care most about when driving on the street? Do you want to just have a soft, plush ride? Or do you want less body roll, lean and squat? Fox/Kings will give you a plush ride but more body roll, which will be magnified by your higher center of gravity.

Icons will ride firmer on the street but dampen better. You will also have less body roll and dive/squat with icons.

3rd gen coils are a higher rate; expect less lift than a 2nd gen. A lot opt for the 650 or 700 lb springs.

I get that, but the bolt on locations are the same. Depending on the vendor, some don't even differentiate the third gen suspension wise. I have a few friends who run 650 on third gens pretty well, it comes down to if they want a full plate and winch for them to bump up to 700 like most second gens would do. That is true though, third gens do come with an extra inch of height like the Bajas did. I thought 650 was standard for any second gen as 600 is too soft unless you are going LT.
