Having had the 3rd gen 5100 set at 1.1 initially and now at stock height I was thinking about 884 coils which would provide the 1" lift I'm after. Truck rides great at the current position, thought it was too harsh at third notch(1.1"). According to the chart on Headstrongs website it seems as if 884=1" lift even though it is not directly stated. Will the 600lb 884 coil be enough and will it be noticeably softer then the preloaded factory coil?

From the feedback I have customers do feel like the OME coils provide a better ride quality then the preloaded factory spring (depending on preload settings and which coil you go with). Ride quality is one of those things that is greatly subjective though and really comes down to your personal perspective.

Pretty much my thought, also comparing preloading a progressive spring rate to a non preloaded linear rate spring. I'm sure I'll be in contact next week to order, thanks for your input as always.

    Marie,
I'm looking to obtain the same stance as this tacoma. I'm set on buying the 3rd gen 5100's 4th notch for the front. What size block would you recommend for the rear as I won't be doing an AAL of any kind, just stock everything in the rear.

I am so sorry that it took me awhile to get back to you, Monday's are hectic.

That truck has an Icon 3-leaf with the overload retained which means that there is probably around 2" of lift in the back. It would be recommended to go with different shocks in the rear since the stock shocks are not really meant for any rear lift.

Maybe someone can help me in here I'm planning on lifting my 2016 Toyota Tacoma off-road with Bilstein 5100. I want to lift the front 2.5 inches and the rear 2 inches with blocks. I did see on someone's website that the Bilstein only accommodate a 0 to 1 inch lift and in the rear. Does anyone know anything about that?

You can use them with 2" blocks, but they will fully extend rather quickly. If you just use your truck to commute and don't really off-road it, they are fine. If you off-road it a lot they are not the ideal shocks to run because of their extended length.

I don't plan on doing a whole lot of off-roading but I wanted it to be capable. Would there be a better option for rear shocks from Bilstein?

Did we ever find a solid answer for this? I too am interested in this exact same setup with the 285's. maybe 17 inch wheels tho. Any pros from 16 to a 17?

You could go with the 5160 Bilstein that is a great option. The extended Bilstein 5100 is more for a 3-4 block or a full leaf pack replacement so you would most likely have to modify the factory bumps to run that with a 2" block. Bilstein also has 5125's but they are a universal shock that isn't vehicle specific so the valving is more generic.

The 887's will provide around 3" of lift on a stock weight 05-15 4dr 4wd running the 2nd gen Bilsteins at the 0 setting.

It is always hard to say exactly how much lift you will gain from any one coil because so many factors come into play like condition of the factory components, trim of truck, and any add-ons or additional options you may have. With that being said here is a link to our spec page so you can see what the average after-settled lifts are from the various coils on the different struts available.

Thanks for the reply I'll check it out. Im in a 2017 so I'll have to do some more digging. Just interested in getting 285's without rub as economically as possible.
