BFG KO2s Load Range E? too much for my tacoma?

    Hey TW, I bought some Ko2's a couple of months ago and I opted for 265 load range E tires. I noticed a noticeable drop in MPG after putting them on. The handling is also much stiffer but nothing terrible. Does anybody who of road's regularly, run C rated Ko2's? I off road fairly often I and I appreciate the extra protection heavier tires give. I don't do any serious rock crawling but some I high speed desert running and steep sandy hills from time to time. Does anybody off road with C rated tires? I also don't carry more than 500 lb in the bed. Am I sacrificing handling, ride comfort, and MPG's for added protection and durability that isn't actually beneficial?

    Anyone seen my wallet?
    I run e load ko2s.. they are heavy but handle fine. Plenty of people take c loads off road. Whats your air pressure? Try 32-34 psi if youre closer to 40.

    The only C rated versions are 265/70r17, so you need to run 17 inch wheels, you'll still notice a slight drop. I had those on my 16 and lost about 1-2 mpg, almost the same as what I'm seeing with my 265/75r16's on my 17.

    This^ I run around 36 on mine, only lost 1-2 mpg.

    Im running 34 PSI. If I could save some rotating weight by getting slightly lighter tires and it won't affect protection too bad maybe I will switch. I assume E's last longer though?

    I'm running 265/70/17 load C KO2's on my taco and I off road 2-3 times a month. I just came back from Moab last weekend and they did just fine on Hells revenge, Fin's & things and white rim trail on 18psi.

    Fuck MPG! E load is kinda overkill for Tacomas which are pretty light. I'd be more concerned about slower acceleration.
    That said I run the same tire as OP but only bc my truck came with them. When they're bald Duratracs are going on because they make them c load in 265/75R16

    By the way I have c rated 33/10.5r15 BFG KOs on my Jeep and that thing sees a ton of abuse, granted it is lighter tho

    Same. Been on some rough terrain with zero issues on my C rated ko2. Worth it to switch 17" rim in my opinion. Lots of options in that wheel size too.

    17 inch wheels are heavier and pretty much all tires for that are more expensive than for 16"

    Heavier, not by much. An e rated tire will add way more weight. If he wants to stick with ko2 I'd go this route

    other option is to find a c-rated AT in this size. To answer your question... C-rated should be just fine in those conditions

    Depends on what kind of performance you want. Sport comes with 17" and TRD off-road with 16" because 16" (all other things equal) can be aired down more. If you want fast acceleration only the overall weight of wheel + tire matters (again outside tire diameter being equal) because it's unsprung rotational mass so the difference in weight will make itself felt exponentially so to say...

    i bought Toyo C range tires and sold them about 2 weeks later. i cannot stand those stretchy soft bubblegum tires in any form on any vehicle. but that's just me.

    i have Cooper ST Maxx E load 17's and i will buy these tires again for the life of the truck. totally love them. 30psi cold in front, 28psi cold in rear. they come up to as high as 34/32 f/r when they warm up on a hot day. they perform perfect and are damn comfortable to drive on the Fox suspension.

    i've heard nothing but good things from this tire. how's the power and mileage on your vehicle. I'm cool w/ 16-18 but down below 15 I begin to wonder about this decision for a daily driver.

    yeah these things are great, but i seriously recommend the chalk test for E tires or they can be a miserable drive if the pressures are off.

    anyway i'm around 18mpg and i drive like a madman for the most part. i have zero sense that these tires are too heavy or eating my power. i'm also on the stock diameter so there's no loss from upsizing (265/65-17).
