Has anyone switched from a AT to MT and why?

This truck is the easiest manual I've driven in regards to traffic. The flywheel weight is just right with the gearing it has, I can pretty much come to a complete stop in 1st with out any bucking or stalling. The clutch spring pressure is nice too, not going to end up with one big calve like I did in my s2000 days. No manual is going to be easier in traffic than an auto, but the gear box in the current Taco is honestly one of the best I've driven.

I have not test driven a Turd Gen manual. Anyone drive a second gen and a third gen manual? Any difference? How is the weight of the clutch pedal?

I haven't driven a manual 2nd gen. I have driven a lot of MT vehicles though. IMO the pedal pressure for the 3rd gen is just right. If its too light it can feel vague, too heavy and I imagine off roading would be a nightmare as would traffic. Its lighter than my s2000, about the same as my WRX was, and heavier than most small cars. Doubt that helps, lol.

I've got a potentially stupid question but here goes:

If an automatic transmission goes out and needs replaced, can a mechanic replace it with a manual transmission?

Yes but the cost would be prohibitive. It would be cheaper to rebuild or replace the existing AT.

My last 2 Tacoma's were 2nd Gens, Clutch feel is roughly the same but the biggest difference is in the actual Gearbox, it honestly shifts buttery smooth compared to the 2nd Gen except for Reverse.

So rough estimate on the trailer is 1,300 pounds, and there was minimal gear hunting. Truck did fine all around Austin so I apologize again for ruffling the feathers. Sadly, I watched this happen 40 ft in front of me. Shiny side up, riders of TW. Yes, motorcyclist's fault. Big props to the first responders. Super professional and fast, guy is just REALLY busted up.

Is that the riders leg in the second photo? Did he walk away from it?

No, he's up where the firetruck is barely in the shot. I wouldn't post gore. He broke his hip, three vertebrae, all of his right arm, and tore a ligament in his left hand. Full leathers with the big back protector. He caught air and I thought he was dead when I ran to him, then I heard screams and he rolled over, legs moving and was a bit relieved.

Sad sad sad. I hope he heals quickly.

The truck will be fine, hell if it doesn't bother you in traffic it probably won't bother you at all.
