How could it have been hurried? They only had 10 years to get it right. I think they got fuckin lazy!

I've been lurking here for a couple of years, and this is my main concern. I have an 05 2nd gen and I was hyped to trade it for a 16, until I read the reviews. I figured I'd wait for the 17's and be good. Until I read the reviews. It seems Toyota has not fixed anything (can't put plastic plugs in the control arms?), and people are just living with it or manually shifting their automatics.
I'm going to pull the trigger on some new vehicle this fall, so now I'm hoping Toyota makes some improvements for 18, but I'm not optimistic.

Lazy, maybe. Quality control is out of whack and the ecu's for every system it seems and they all speak a different language. I think it drives terrible in city traffic conditions. Always wants to jump to the highest gear possible. 40 MPh and it's shifted into 5th gear already. All for the sake of our government fuel standards I guess.

I think if more people just drove their truck and stayed off the internet they wouldn't have half of the perceived issues they claim to have. The truck works exactly as it was designed. There is NO lack of torque, no transmission issues. The torque may not be where you want it, but its there. The transmission may shift different than what your used to or would like it to, but that does not mean they are defective trucks just waiting to self destruct. Its my fist Taco. I came from a HEMI, used to LOTS of power. But so far this truck is exactly what it was advertised to be, and like most, Im very happy with it. YMMV !!

OK Could be but you're here on the Internet and you don't have problems with your truck so what gives there?

    Aye, there's the rub!

Certainly seems every guy WITHOUT an issue is in his first Tacoma. Meanwhile, those of us with issues have all had 1st and 2nd gens.

    This isn't just coincidence...

Amen brother! Sacrificing performance for fuel economy. Which isn't bad, except for we're expected to drive a vehicle that seems like it can barely pull itself...

The transmission is going to hunt around some. It doesn't have enough low in torque to pull when you squeeze the gas.

This is my first Tacoma and I pretty much want to douse it with gas and light it on fire every day after my commute. This engine/trans is the worst of any vehicle I've owned. Probably more the trans, it's so damn clunky.

My theory is the guys on here who don't seem to have any issues live somewhere with very little traffic and average speeds of 45 mph. That's about the sweet spot for this truck, below 40 is horrible and around 70-75 it's struggling. Now punch it at 70 and it will haul ass since the revs are up but how often do we drive up there in a truck?

Excellent point of view sir! I agree... a transmission with too tall of OD gears paired with a motor that wants to run hot...

Your theory would be wrong where I'm concerned. I live in Atlanta and love to drive fast. Again, there is no issues with either the trans or the engine, its just not set up to your liking. The remedy is simple....sell it.

There's too much of this going on...

"I really don't like the truck."

"Well, I live a thousand miles from you and it suits me fine so the problem is you."

    That's a load.

I'll agree that the truck is fine beyond 2300 rpms, but the whole argument of the tall gears is the MPGs

Because it's simple for everyone to just throw away 3 or 4 grand in depreciation on a nearly brand new vehicle
