My 35s just came in and I have been reading alot about gears to decide on which ones to order. Search results are pretty much all for automatics. Does it matter that I have a manual trans? My final rpms change a little over the auto. Plus I am supercharged.

Do I need 4.56? The gear calculator put me at 2600rpm at 70. Even higher for 4.88. I feel like ill get crushed with gas mileage (which I already am)

    Thanks

unless you can find some OEM 4.10's out of a 4 cylinder 6 lugger. Just do the 4.56's and enjoy the acceleration, you are never gonna have good mpgs with 35's regardless of gearing... those are heavy ass tires.

the calculator showed 4.10 being really close to stock with the manual trans. just slightly under geared. I am buying new 3rd member with locker from ecgs so I can pick any gear I want.

I am not looking for great mileage. I get 13 now with the supercharger (city driving). But when it is time to go on long trip to go wheel I would hate to sit at 3k rpm the whole time

If you are satisfied to cruise at 70mph or less, I say go for it.

If you wanna go faster, I'd probably just deal with the 3.73s, which shouldn't be too bad with a manual and supercharger. 4.10s just aren't a large enough jump to justify the cost IMO. MPG will suck either way but lower gears aren't always bad for MPGs since they make the motor work less.

buddy runs 4.56's supercharged (stealth pulley) on 33's and gets better mpgs than when he had the stock 3.73's, his cruising speed has dropped from like 80 to 75mph but overall he gets much better mpgs.

I'm in the same boat and trying to decide between 4.10's and 4.56's. Stock my truck was cruising at a hair under 2500 @ 70 *online calc shows 2437rpms so in all honesty 2600 wouldnt be a huge jump. 4.10s seem to fit the bill nicely though. I'm looking to get a low mileage 4.10 front from a wrecking yard and then a built rear diff from ecgs. Keep us updated whichever way you go! BTW 4.10's with 34's(since no 35s are even close to 35" tall when mounted) is 2411rpms @ 70mph.

So you are on 35s now and getting 2500 at 70? because 4.56 shows 2600. That is not much change.

I think I am just gonna go 4.56 and keep it slower on the highway. I have plate front rear bumpers, steel skids, sliders, etc anyways so I weigh alot and it will help. Also be nice on a hill while crawling

I had 4.56 and 33's on another rig too high of RPM for my taste but - 35's should be a decent fit for the gear but didn't I see somewhere that 4:30's might be an option for a Tacoma or ?

no. 2nd gen v6's 6 luggers regardless of trans came with 3.73's.... i4 6 luggers regardless of trans came with 4.10's

Now the 3rd gens have axle ratios all over the place, depending on motor, TRD package, manual or auto.

Manuals have 3.73 like all other 2nd gens. Its the trans that has different gears in it

Well I just placed an order for 4.56 with ecgs. After chatting with those guys on the phone, they felt with all the extra weight that I carry the 4.56 would be better, especially offroad. My truck is not a DD, but I do have to drive a good ways to get to trails and stuff.

4.56's will be worth it to push extra weight of armor around for sure.

I'm on 255/80's now with 3.73s but have been working the clutch alot the last few trips and planning on 35's by the end of the year which will make it even worse.

Good choice, in my experience, it's much easier to live with a vehicle that's geared too low than too high.
