Im in the market for a Tacoma, I want a 4x4, but prefer the price of a Prerunner. I live in a fairly flat area, and only off road when I have time to play. Camping and fishing all over and as far out as I can go. I have gotten my self into some sticky situations but was always quick to put it in 4wd to get out, but would a prerunner do the trick? For those of you who have a Prerunner and off-road, ever have any problems getting stuck?

Sounds like you might want the 4X4 based on your needs. I simply don't need it; I don't do any of the stuff you mentioned, for example.

I don't care how well your prerunner locks...you wont be following me through this stuff. There isn't enough weight on the rear end to get the job done. And when the rear wheels are stuck up you don't have the front wheels picking up the slack.

Pre Runners can only off road so much, if you keep them out of the mud they are pretty effective, and if you do put them in the mud, haul ass and pray you don't lose momentum.

No offense uood8... but my truck wouldn't have a problem with that at all :/ Air down and BFG AT KO's would serve just fine with the locker engaged. Also, keeping momentum helps.

that was the level area....i know for a fact no prerunner would go where i just came from, the terrain is to rough to go over 10mph. Anyone in the area wants to give it a try i'll take them out there....and i'll bring my tow rope.
