Need help removing bull bar brackets

Hey TW,

I recently purchased a 2015 DCSB that had an aftermarket (unknown brand) bull bar attached. The dealership removed the bar at my request but would not remove the brackets because they stated it would require the removal of the entire bumper in order to access the brackets.

Can anyone please confirm this information? I would like to remove the brackets and it appears there are only 3 bolts holding them in place. They are certainly tucked up in there but I think I can access them without removing the bumper. I'm just not sure if any of the bolts were installed on the frame prior to the brackets and I don't want to screw up anything. (I can post a photo of the brackets later today if needed.)

I call bullshit on that. I too have a bull bar, that I put on myself with the help of a buddy, and we DID NOT have to remove the bumper. They just want to hit you up for $$$.

You should be able to just remove the bolts and the brackets, unless there is more to the installation that the previous owner did.

 

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought that too and this was supposed to be a part of the deal, no added cost. My guess is just that they were lazy or didn't want to do the added work?

It looks like there are 3 bolts securing each bracket. Does this sound about right? Were any bolts already on the frame prior to install or did your bull bar come with all the necessary bolts?

Sounds about right to me on the bolts thing. I don't think there were any bolts on the frame before, but can't say for sure to be honest since I did it a while back. But I don't think there were. The bull bar came with the bolts when I bought it.

 

By the way... would it help you if I took some quick pics of what mine look like, so you can compare to what you have?!

But I think these are the three bolts you are talking about, right?!

There are two that you see from the "outside":



And then one that's "inside" sort of speak:



If you take these off, the brackets should come off if I remember correctly.

 

@Cativelense those photos were definitely helpful. This is what I'm looking at on my truck. The brass colored one on the left and the two just above/right of it. Looks similar to yours so I'm guessing I'm on the right page with those 3. Thank you for your help!!
