Same here. I have some really expensive collectors knives, but will never use it, so I sometimes question why I even have them. Most of my every day carry knives are $30-$60 Kershaw, Gerber or Victorinox and they all work just perfectly fine. At least for what I use them for.

Sorry, but you don't have to abuse your knife to use it. It's a cutting tool, not a screwdriver or prybar.
This Marifone custom matrix R was $1200 and $800 for the matching mini matrix R. I carry, enjoy, and use them both a lot, for cutting. Use the right tool for the job!

Of course, I don't carry or use them both at the same time... not usually anyway :D

Thanks! I got another Damascus and Koa fixed blade inbound. I'll post pics as soon as it comes in.
And BTW it's all relative. a $200 knife is expensive to some. $1000 for a knife is crazy for others. But these Rad/toxic fab full dress knives sell for well over $10K
Way way waaaay out of my league...

All of this brings the question, how many collect basic utilitarian knives only and forego the collectors grade pieces?

Not abuse with me, I just don't like using a $200 knife.

I think I might have used a firesteel a few times with my Woodcrafter. Maybe a few whittles..

Can't bring myself to use it to the extent of its intended capability. :anonymous:

An expensive blade for me, and wear marks are all like dents in my new car. Can't do it. Partly why I gave so much away, no sense in it.

Now I don't buy knives anymore. For me, totally a waste of funds.

Found it! Not quite as beat up as I remember, but plastic handle is loose and sloppy. This blade does get scary sharp and stays pretty sharp for awhile. And yeah, not usually a big fan of serrations.

This one does have sentimental value.

I've been making a few knives to help pay for college bills, thought I'd share. Took mine camping this last weekend and it worked perfectly for EDC on the river.

collecting knives isnt my thing. i have an expensive (for me) knife that i had the hardest time pushing thru a dead pig. it wasnt so much the pig, but the thick mud the beast was coated with. i did use it to break down a deer and several dead turkey..trust me that new knife smell is gone. i watched the blade tarnish right before my eyes when i gutted that bloody deer. i'm kinda over it. the knife thing.

my last deer i had to do, i used my Mora companion. $14 worth of great steel. i actually almost cut myself badly. had to duct tape the wound and wear a rubber glove to finish. i was grinning ear to ear for my brother's deer kill and thinking about "look at how my fancy bushcraft knife cuts!" was not even a distant blip on my radar. i think blindfolded..cutting a deer feels the same with any knife. it instantly becomes a tool.

my brother however loved how his policeman themed custom i bought him was doing on his half of the deer. :)
