Bilstein 5100 question

    If I'm understanding this correctly. I can use a set of Bilstein 5100's with my stock spring and lift the front of the my Tacoma?

    I'm basically trying to level my truck. The front is about 1.5 low.

    You are correct, they are specifically designed for use with your stock coils. Members do also buy them to use with aftermarket coils, but I do believe that voids the Bilstein warranty...

    Here is my DCSB with billies up front in the 1.75 setting, stock rear.

    Excellent. The stance on your truck is exactly what I'm after. Looks great man.

    Do you have to do an alignment? Or is this just something I can bolt on and forget it?

    I would suggest an alignment after. Any time you mess with your suspension geometry, you should get an alignment. You will run the risk uneven tire wear.

    I'm actually about to go to a full 3in lift using my 5100s and aftermarket coils. Once you start lifting it's like a habit... Always need more!

    Sorry newb to shock/suspension setups so take it easy on me. If I get front and rear 5100s and leave evertyhing else stock it will look like your setup?

    If you set the front 5100s at 1.75, for the most part yes. All trucks are different so it's not an exact science. The rear 5100s do nothing for providing lift.

    Thank you. One additional question do I use 5100s in the rear or does it matter if I were to use new bilstein 4600s? Appreciate your help.

    Too few to list.
    Spend the extra $160 and get either the Eibach Wheelers/Toytec coil for 1.6" of lift paired with the 5100's. Much better ride and not nose high.

    I don't think that matters. They may have a difference in ride quality between the two.

    I'll let someone else chime in on that.

    Typically, you would want longer shocks in the rear if the lift the rear end. This allows you to fully flex the rear without your shock being the limiting factor for articulation.

    Since you arent lifting the rear, you will be fine either way. I think the rear 5100s are minutely longer than the 4600s, but I believe they are valved different. Again, someone with better knowledge will probably correct me.

    Seeing that your truck is a 2009, most likely you have the 3 leaf spring and probably sagging a bit. Setting the 5100 at 1.75" of lift will have your front sit higher than the rear. That is why I suggest getting the coils with the 5100's that way you can be leveled plus have a better ride. Preloading coils tend to be on the stiff side.

    Not meaning to hijack, but I have a base model 2012 access cab, 4x4,stock set up

    The ride is stiff as all hell. How much will 5100's improve the ride quality. Not planning on lifting it at all.

    Bilstein 5100 with 884 Springs. Full audio system. Stealth 6 Wheels. Cali led light.
    I would replace all with the 5100's. My new 2015 TRD Sport were changed at 750miles on my new truck. I could tell the 5100's are better.

    Being a base model you have whatever cheap shocks Toyota put in it. The 5100's will be firmer but in a good way. If you don't intend to lift just get the Bilstein 4600.
