I would rather them drop a new engine in the truck than open the engine and replace defective parts. at .1 miles or 28000 miles. Thats my stance at least. The most likely will extend a warranty for him if he contacted corporate.

And at that point then you have every right to request a new truck/buy back. Again it sucks and honestly I would put more faith in the service advisor ensuring proper torque settings, etc. than it moving down an overtasked assembly line. They aren't gonna stick the average tire and oil service guy on your truck, it will likely be the lead service advisor.

It's like saying I bought a new house, the house has a new home warranty from the builder, but when I moved in the A/C unit went out, the builder agreed to replace the A/C unit and warranty it, but I demand a whole new house...

OPs truck after a new engine will be no different than one off the lot and still have a warranty, likely better warranty on the engine now. Not sure how that is any different. It is entirely different than your cash/used example.

    Nope on the insurance, AD.

I agree 100% with this comparison.

I wouldnt say insurance... id say real world experience in life. Some call it reality, the real world, etc

    Agree

I do hope your correct in that all the work will be accomplished in a top notch fashion.

We're just not going to agree on this...ever.

I also disagree with you analogy. IMO in most cases I see a/c as a luxury that doesn't render a home unusable. The engine in a vehicle is more than a minor subsystem, without one his truck is useless.

Bottom line is OP is entitled to Toyota fixing his truck, nothing more nothing less, he/she is not entitled to a whole new truck.

I'm not trying to slam Joe or put down what he is saying. Just in reality thats not how a warranty works on ANYTHING. No independant dealership is going to take a hit on a new truck to sell to him, PLUS have to sell a truck thats brand new but now considered used. Small dealers cant front that overhead, large dealers have enough lawyers to deal with you... they dont care about you at all.

    Noice :D

Ya I just feel bad for the guy man. I'm a conservative guy & have lived off running my own business for years in the past...I get it. I also know how I'd feel given his circumstances.

I wonder what the actual expense would be for Toyota to replace his truck with a new exact truck, fix the old one & sell it as used??

This truck was built at the Texas plant and says so on the door and window sticker the salesman even said so and made a big deal about it as if the Mexico plant was lesser quality but that plant has won several awards for quality so....and the Texas truck is the one with the issue...nothing is perfect but if it was say the alternator not working yes just pop on a new one or some minor defect but when your talking the engine that is different...:oldglory:

Wow OP, that's unfortunate. I hope they do you right, I'd be disappointed as well.

If i had to guess, the engine is built elsewhere and shipped ready to go to the factory.

I literally feel horrible for him... not going to instill much confidence in the truck or brand for him... Mechanical things break though.

I feel for him too. I've been there with my 16, had 2 going on 3 rear diffs replaced. I followed the steps, let Toyota fix it, asked them to do right by me, got an extended platinum warranty for the whole truck, then the 3rd time moved to my 17 which was a polite conversation between my dealer service advisor/case manager and dealer gm.
