Plenty of 3.0 engines were replaced up to 100k miles by Toyota when they were found to have bad head gaskets and blew. Plenty have also had frame replacement.

Didn't warrant a brand new truck and many that were fixed lasted for years beyond the repairs.

Sucks that it happened two weeks out the gate but it is possible for a bearing to fail, machining processes are quite good but still not perfect with zero defects.

You are correct, I know people who make a very good living because mechanical things break & they fix them.

Speaking of confidence in the product and on a side note. A person I'm close to purchased a new BMW a while back and a few months in & with only 2,500 miles on it, it left her stranded 50 miles from home in an area she wasn't all that familiar with (of course I get the phone call but I was 10 hours away). She had the repair done & as normal for premium brands they supplied her with a loaner and even dropped it off with a roll off at her home and picked up the loaner. But, it was too late, her confidence in having reliable transportation in her new car was gone. She bought new and paid a premium for that piece of mind which was squandered by a bad ECU. Her new to her but old Toyota pickup became her daily driver and the BMW went away. So ya, I bet it'll take a while for him to be comfortable with the truck again.

I dont think he is trying to troll.
The sticker says FINAL assembly... which leaves any part of the truck to be assembled elsewhere. Most likely Osama Bin Laden's 48th goat child put that bearing together in a cave by candle light.... who knows.

Do we have real reason to believe he's a troll?

He's been on TW for a little while. Seems I remember him being happy getting his first Taco...but who knows.

That's how I am with MX bikes. I had a terrible experience with my 16 KTM, never again even if they are rated the best bike to have right now. I was fortunate that I've had 6 tacomas and a long history with Toyota so my 16 lemon didn't sour my confidence/desire to continue owning Toyota.

I think roof is different, it is needed plus can ruin other things..

Personally I'd ask for a new truck being 2 weeks into it, but if not at least extended warranty and some other kind of love.

And yes I relate as a business you want to keep the customer happy

its a Toyota truck and that's all the modifications needed
only unusual thing I see is that the OP has a 2.7l 4 cylinder and the dealer says there is a bearing defect in the engine which is very unusual but not impossible. these 2.7l have rock solid dependability in the past going hundreds of thousands miles without major internal engine problems/break downs. but then again anything is possible in the 3rd gen world.

You can hardly compare a house which has many moving pieces all separate of each other to a truck, which also has moving pieces, yet all revolve around the engine. A house isn't a truck.

Here's another completely unrelated analogy that sounds just as stupid. It's like the OP bought a shirt. The shirt had a hole in the center. Manufacture offered to remove section of shirt and sew in a new one. OP would rather just have a new shirt. Sounds pretty stupid right? Probably because a shirt isn't a truck and a house isn't a truck.

OP, your best bet is to see about lemon law if your truck is going to be out of commission so long. I'd be pretty pissed if I had to make payments on a vehicle I couldn't drive, especially if it started as early as the first payment.
If you do get a new engine, definitely get the extended warranty in writing. I've heard of people being told they were given the extended warranty just to find that the dealer lied when they went to a different dealer.
Unfortunately you're at the mercy of corporate and that dealer. Keep the post updated as you hear more.

Now I'm off to the post office to mail my new coffee cup back to the manufacturer since it came with a crack at the handle seam. No worries though, they're going to remove the old one and cook on a new one. I'll be drinking out of my new cup in two months. (another stupid and unrelated analogy.)

Not sure what all the fuss is about assembly in Mexico. My brother works in a field with Mexican skilled labor and he loves them, says they can replicate and demonstrate a process to a higher consistency than most other coworkers he's teamed with. He loves having amigos on his crew when they have difficult tasks to complete. It's usually done quicker and to a higher degree of accuracy.

You can't compare a vehicle, something mechanical with hundreds of moving parts to either of those...:bananadead: Again OP is entitled to a fixed, running truck, not a whole new truck, nothing more nothing less.

He has every right to want a new truck. I am in the same boat with more than one issue on my 2017. Dealer decided to replace all bearing inside the transmission because of a rattle. My truck came back worse than it went in. I am in the process of getting a replacement or a buy back. I would never trust the dealer to fix anything at this point. My truck went in with 167 miles on it. I am documenting everything everyday with videos and paper work. We paid FULL price for a brand new toyota truck, not some dealer fix special. Some of us got lemons, which happens. Toyota should stand behind their product and replace them especially with some of us owning the trucks less than a gas tank worth.
