See I had been looking at cyber security but I love mechanical stuff, I've been in the robotics team for the last 3 years and love cadd and Matlab stuff

 

How can something be fun and boring?

 

Programming is a big deal right now, I know the Toyota plant in hville is in dyer need of them they use a program like matlab but its called toyopuc. One guy pulls in 120k a year and all he has is a maintenance degree from Calhoun. He taught himself toyopuc and is extremely good at ladder logic.

 

Interesting, maybe I should just take a class on toyopuc and apply lol

 

God damn I know matlab. Sign me up

 

Gonna be a long drive every day from Hoover

 

When I started college, ME had a high job volume outlook and high pay to go along. But then the market went to shit 6 months before I graduated. So it may be back strong before you graduate. Who knows? I just see entry jobs for MEs popping up in LA and NY and San Fran starting at $30k and that is fucking poverty in those areas so that gives you an idea.

 

I'll move gladly. Fucking thrilled to do that kinda change.

I love working in CAD and solidworks. Just hate having to always do my work plus senior engineer's work who refuses to learn how to use it

Exactly! Last I heard average pay is around 54000, you can get that and more with a 2 year degree. And industry is HURTING for skilled workers.

 

So what is your vote on what I should do

They aren't wrong. I fell into my job. Average pay has def gone down for engineers. Mechanical is the best, because it's real. Electrical is made up hooplah magic junk that sucks. Be prepared if you go into engineering to eventually do something business related like project management instead.

 

What you want. Don't chase money. But be realistic about putting food on the table. Passion breeds success. Not the other way around.

Currently studying to get ASE certs. However 'useless' they may be among manufacturer specific mechanics and master techs, it would look damn good on these resumes I keep spamming to TRD.
