    So on a switch u have 2 wires, one is a hot or constant hot and the other is a switched hot or switch leg. I was saying just make sure u had hooked up to the constant hot, otherwise ue sensor would only work if u had the switch on. Since both wires on the switch were probably black, first turn the breaker off, then disconnect both wires and safe them on with a wire nut on each. Then turn the breaker back on, and with either a meter or a tic tracer u can identify the hot. This is the wire u want to splice onto for ur sensor.

    he beat me to it. but he may only have two wires and what he thinks is the Neutral . is actually the hot or switch leg . dam resi wiring. and he may need a Neutral with the switch he bought. sence he said there was only a black and a white this sounds like what he has.
    was there two blacks to the original switch or just a black white and ground?

    edit : also that yellow might be the switch leg. We need more info?????

    this is why 120v is dangerous. home owners just start playing with it and dont know what there doing. be safe, get a meter and know how to use it.

    more i think about it he does not have a neutral there. if he pulled both off a single pole switch it was the hot and the switch leg. single pole switches dont have a neutral.

    No i work for the state Now. i joined the state when shit was slow. im at the same place everyday and my commute is 3.5 miles. hard to leave, but the pay sucks.
