Very interesting. I always thought I heard the shock companies saying something like the higher nitrogen pressure was typically required for high-impact terrain with racing-type driving, to provide additional and consistent compression reaction? :notsure:

Sooooooo he'll end up with a driveshaft full of brown cocaine and in about 2wks it will disappear from under his truck?

Also, what they told Brian about DLNW that sounds like any competitors response. Trash talk the competition and put yourself on a pedestal for the customer.

Well I know its true about the parts used. I called DLNW after and they said they used Neapco u joints, Fleetpride uses Spicer.

Also I didn't notice at all when I picked up my driveshaft but the u joint that holds the 2 piece together was missing 2 caps. When I dropped it off DLNW said "you can't reuse u joints, once the cap comes off you need a new one"... which is totally false. Anyway I called them to see if they had my caps and they said "we assumed we were going to do the work so we threw them out". I said "they were perfectly good u joints there is no need to replace them, and I didn't agree to you guys doing the work I only agreed to a quote.". Then the guy told me again that you can't reuse u joints and if I wanted he'd give me a new u joint. Hung up on me. I called back and said "okay ill be over later to get it" and then he hung up on me again.

Honestly I'd consider ujoints/caps a one time use item. Have you ever tried to get all those needle bearings back in the cap and re-assemble easily? PITA! If I wanted a new driveling I'd expect all new parts. Not a JR of old and new components. I can do that without spending $$$. I need to work on the balancing part. :D

To each their own, but my u joints only have 12k miles on them... don't see a reason to replace them. Plus im not looking for a new driveshaft, just want it retubed and rebalanced to not get vibes.
Its mainly because he was saying "you can't reuse them", when in fact you can. I personally haven't dealt with u joints myself but talking to others its doable for sure so who knows.

    Marketing. :D

I've reused them quite a bit. The secret is to stick just a bit of fresh grease in before you take it apart, so the grease holds the needles in place, because it's definitely a PITA to put them back.

    Ha! I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm pretty familiar with marketing concepts as that's my degree and job for awhile, but I guess I'm just a bit more research-oriented than taking one person's word for it. He could very well be right or partially right, but the majority of C/O's range in the 150-300 PSI range, even the best ones. Valving is valving; the proper way to tune a shock, along with the spring. But all those Baja teams (with millions of dollars into R&D, equipment, testing and the trucks) also run similar pressures, so it seems reason would point to them having those high pressures for an actual benefit.

I'm by no means a shock engineer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once.

In hindsight that was an incorrect and poor choice of terminology.

My understanding (which isn't much) is its more about what you are doing to determine the pressure. Also shock types too. Monotube shocks will almost always have a higher charge than a twin tube type shock. But yes Baja/off-roading type shocks will generally have higher pressure to help maintain performance. Whereas a C/O on a street car can be a lot lower (50-100) as its not being worked quite as hard and the lighter charge gives more "feel" or something.

But like you Im definitely not a shock guy so could be way off
