I know an engineering degree doesn't make you one of God's chosen few like many you meet seem to think. It really doesn't give you any idea how things work or how to fix them. BUT, if you get that degree AND get your tech certs, and decide to go that route and work hard (like you should anyways), it gives you at least another layer of understanding (sometimes) behind why something was made the way it was, and it could really help you become great at your tech career, fast track, and do something incredibly cool like the guy Justin just mentioned. I'm tempted to say I might do just that. But it's too soon to say.

Haha, I understand that. I graduated from Alabama in 2015, bias.

Auburn does have a better engineering program.

As others have said do what you want, not what you think brings the money and prestige.

This is exactly why I think people should work a year or so before college and push community college one university. At a CC you have much more variety and flexibility to pursue different career paths. I originally wanted to be a welder so I started on that path and realized I really didn't want to be behind a helmet all day. I then thought about engineering, fuck a desk man. So I went with industrial design, when I graduated I got a job in a fab shop and found what I love. Now I make not so much money and deal with more brats, but I love what I do.

Really, there are a lot of manufacturing companies who would love anyone with any skilled trade. But yes they're looking for more CNC and maintenance techs.

That is one thing I have been around just enough to know I'd be interested in learning more, and see on many of the job postings I am interested in. I need to do a little Amazon-ing for some CNC topic books. Only thing you can do when your current job doesn't expose you to stuff, right? Lol

Exactly, there are too many people with engineering degrees that don't know a damn about anything, the good engineers can at least somewhat hang with us technical folks:p

Go to your local community college, get some training and you're pretty much guaranteed a good job. If you can do more then just load parts you'll get a great job.

I don't like to say he'd charge the same because his prices are probably going up. I was one of his very early customers. When I got mine it was 400$. I would assume it's still very close to that number.

If he's working on helicopters as a mechanic, he's not making 6 figures. JS
