Yep, reason I gave up as well.

Good luck OP, no worries, I'm sure Toyota will get you taken care of, maybe not your ideal situation but back on the road with your Taco, PM me if you want some advice on talking to Corporate, been there done that.

My brother knows I don't stop....I have sent two emails to the GM on the different emails I can find for him and all nice and respectful and I will continue to be as it is just a truck and I am blessed but I will continue to go up the ladder and me and the Toyota customer service case worker will talk on Monday too...I would hope they would just deal w Toyota directly and say look this one had a major defect and we are stepping up for our customer here is what we think is a good solution for all....however so far w the mid management etc I've been stonewalled and as for the service department they seem honest and the service manager even said that they could possibly not torque everything to exact as the factory does to spec which makes me bubble over with confidence...worst case for me is they dont replace it and I pay on it for a year after getting it out of the shop and Ill have equity in based on my down payment and I can get something else and I will... and I have never had a car need a whole engine before so this is a first so definitely a rare experience I wish on none

And sometimes it's not the fault of assembly process at all...whether hand built by one person or produced by many people and/or machines. But rather an unforseen component failure that causes catastrophic engine failure. Almost no way to predict something of that nature. If the folks assembling engines could predict that....well, they wouldn't be assembling engines. They would be sitting at home on the couch guessing lottery numbers.

Warranties exist because assembled products are not perfect. If they were, there would be no need for the warranty.....which of course, is not realistic

Do you need to know, or care?
I was down this road with Pontiac before. I know....different than Toyota....but was unsuccessful with buy back. Small block replacement was the fix. 3 weeks in the dealer and a trade-in shortly after with another manufacturer. Pontiac fixed it as per the warranty, I wasn't happy and decided to moved to another vehicle. Not saying you should do that, mine was the infamous Fiero engine issue. :anonymous: I will say this though, they will do what is required under your warranty and not much more, so don't expect buy back or anything else. Just sayin'

This thread has been 9 pages of cats and dogs arguing with each other. Your all allowed your opinions, but this is not getting anywhere.
OP I hope you get this resolved, either by returning the truck, having Toyota replace it, or just by having a dealership repair the damage.
    Best of luck!

It sound like a fluke... a freak thing, million to one shot. Go buy a lottery ticket.

Happening at 10K? I'd say swap the motor. 381? That's a tough one.

Chances are, they swap the motor and you'll never have a single issue ever again.

If I was having OP's issues I'd be pissed and worried. However I'd give Toyota every opportunity to make it right.

Vehicles are the 2nd largest purchase for a consumer. Cars nowadays cost as much if not more than some houses used to cost. Yeah car makers need to make quality cars and make them right.

Document everything at every step of the way and be courteous about it and give them every opportunity to make things right.

Toyota gains customers because some other companies continue to make crap. No company can afford to take a customer for granted.

20/20 did an investigation on CarFax a few years ago. It was determined that a bunch of salvaged cars were being sold with clean CarFax paperwork.

I think CarFax was a scam at it's inception. Pay us money, we'll tell you everything wrong with the car... in reality, it was pay us money, and we'll look at the title to see where it has been and if it has been salvaged... which is something you can do for free.

Notice here recently CarFax is advertising selling cars, not pulling vehicle histories.

I'm sure it was someones get rich quick scheme.
The dealer i worked for would put all service info into carfax reports. It was nice when i had to sell a CPO car and had a household name "carfax" that showed up spotless along with the BMW records to back it up.

    ...^^^... This for sure

And IF they insist on a rebuilt engine on a new truck. I would demand a zillion mile platinum Totota Corporate warranty.

Toyota may be within their legal rights, but this is soooo wrong.

Take some pics of it torn apart at dealership and post on social media and explain this is what happened to your 2 week old NEW Tacoma and how they are treating you.

I have had many Toyotas and love them, but stuff like this makes me crazy.

    .
Just thinking about an old muscle car 426/425 Hemi MoPar engine warranty.

IIRC, it was 90 days or 1 replacement on some models.

Just remembered this little tid-bit. This Tacoma did not make it to 90 days.

wife has a subaru crosstrek,, oil started leaking from some where after a few thousand miles, they pulled the motor twice trying to fix the leak, then they were going to replace the motor,, after talking to subau corporate and going to the highest person at the dealership, they ordered her a new car, exactly like the one she bought, she had a loaner for a few weeks untill new crosstrek came in.. asked them if it were the other way around how would they like it,,, if there new car was a lemmon... no problems with new one. they paid the tax and everything else to switch over to the new replacement car... thats how a company keeps customers,,

Yep similar to my situation with my 16 and the rear diff. You just have to at least go through the steps to let them fix it, new engine, extended warranty, still problems then a new truck. Hence my previous entitled comments.

I have to ask, and pardon my ignorance if I have this wrong, but if they replaced your rear dif. 3 times why did you not lemon law it? Aren't you worried about resale? If I was buying used and saw a major part fails and be fixed 3 times I would be hesitant.

No worries bud. I have a 17 now that was my 16. They replaced it twice to no fix which is when they agreed to move me into a new truck. But this was after I let them try to fix it under warranty, let them know my frustration as a long time customer (they gave me the platinum warranty and refunded one month's payment). By being courteous but stern and professional it didn't have to get to lemon law and all that entails. I gave them the chance(s) to make it right and they did just that. But I didn't demand a new truck one month into ownership needing a new differential.
