What year 2nd Generation would you buy? 2013-2015

Is that real leather? I have the 2013 with the "leather" wheel and the seats are claimed to be leather as well - but isn't that all vinyl? Not busting chops - serious question - do any Tacos have real leather from the factory? Thanks

 

My 14 came with that plug you're talking about, and then I added the mirror with the temp and compass.

If it is what I am thinking of, there's a super easy fix to it. If it is this: peeps have complained that the foam filter inside it disintegrates and fucks it up. So what people have done is, they remove that filter pc and buy a small uni filter and put that on there.

I have a 2014 TRD OR and love it, except for a few things. My outdoor temp is via HD radio on the head unit which sometimes is simply "not available". When it does work, it doesn't update to your location unless you tap it, view the weather info, then return back out of that screen. And that only sometimes works. It will show the weather in a city that is 50 miles away. So in my opinion, the outside temperature feature is useless. Pretty often I have some sort of rattling sound coming from the center of the dash (had unit or vent area) and for the life of me I can't figure out what is causing it.

 

I bought a 2015 TRD OR with 8k on it 2 months ago. Put about 4,500mi on it since and have absolutely zero complaints. I get approx 310 miles to a tank with the way I drive, it pulls my quads and trailers where I want, carries all my hunting and camping gear, cruises no problem at 75 and has taken pretty much everything I have had time to throw at in this short timeframe.
I done some pretty extensive research and looked for the right truck for quite some time and couldn't be happier.......my wallet on the other hand thinks differently.

I had the same thing about the temp and weather when I had my non nav unit. Might be because of that... honestly can't say that I have used or checked that now that I have a nav unit, but now I'm curious if it'll still do it. Not that I really cared about it before anyway, since I didn't use it for that... That rattling sound though, have you tried taking the radio out and checking to see if there is anything lose behind it?!

I didn't even know there was a "leather seat" option at all in the 2nd gens. I'd guess that's vinyl. And the steering wheel I'm not sure if it's vinyl or leather but it feels like leather to me.

 

I have not done that. I should start by having someone else drive my truck so I can screw around with trying to locate the sound. Then I'll worry about removing the head unit. Thanks for the suggestion.

 

That's actually a good idea right there. Let someone drive while you concentrate on the noise, and try to pinpoint it. Nice. I like that!!

 

Steering wheel and shift knob are leather. AFAIK the only factory leather seats are in Canadian DCLB TRD Sport + Leather trim level models

 

I have a 14 and my brother in law has a 13. I prefer the steering wheel and the head unit in the 14. I also prefer the backup cam in the radio but that's personal preference.

The 13 does have the temp/compass though but it was easy enough to add that for me

 

2013 and only because it has the temp/compass in the mirror, but that is so minor that it wouldnt influence my decision. sooooo you can't go wrong with either of the years.

Also, the backup cam in the radio isn't new for 2014....my 2012 has it on the radio. For the 2012 and 2013 the location of the backup cam feed depends on how the truck is equipped.

 

Whichever is the best deal that you can afford. That's the best year; There are such minor differences in the years from 2013-2015, I wouldn't even stress about which is best. If you can find one in great condition for the right price with the right miles; your golden.
