Back to my Leaking rear diff.

The very bottom nut is in fact loose. However, it will not tighten. It also won't loosen the nut will only spin in place on the bolt. What's going on here?

Also noticed that the washer on that bolt is new, silver, and thinner than the rest. The others are old, black, thick washers. I assume the shop that put my locker in lost the original.

Fuck.

 

I'd take it back to them. Make them fix it, they evidently didn't do it correctly the first time. I had a similar experience when I had the locker put in my Ford. I noticed a leak at the axle seal a few days after the install. Took it back and they replaced the leaking seal and put it back together correctly the second time.

 

Apparently the bolt is stripped. Going to call them Monday.

Oh, you mean holding the third in, my bad. Weld that.

 

Yes, I mean one of the the bolts holding the 3rd is stripped so the nut don't tighten and I'm losing fluid.

Have you already done the gasket maker mod?

 

No. I crawled under there this morning to look. Thought I would start on the gasket tonight. Then I found the fucked bolt. Don't think the gasket is the problem.

Sounds like the stud is stripped. Def take it back to them and say what the fuck. If they won't fix it, wedge a flat head in between the diff and housing and apply pressure while you loosen the nut.
