Spent $500 on a new mod yesterday.... Everyone's going to be jealous

Driving in to work, we had high winds yesterday. A good sized tree limb fell onto my truck. I would expect something like this to happen out hooning the truck in the woods or something, not on my commute... Anyways. First new vehicle I've ever owned, had it for all of 7 days. Insurance deducible is $500. Yay me.



Dented the hood and the A pillar, chipped some paint, scratched the mirror.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to fix it or it will drive me nuts and make me sad for the rest of the trucks life... I intend to keep it until the wheels fall off.

Anyone in the Portland area recommend a good body shop? I think what I'm pretty unhappy about isn't the $500 for insurance, but the thought of dealing with a body shop and being without the truck for who knows how long. Any word of mouth recommendations would be appreciated.

I'll probably put more pics later when I get up the courage, I can barely stand to look at it right now.

 

If you know any serious classic car guys ask them, they put alot of time and money into those old cars so they typically only trust the best body shops to work on their babies. Steer clear of body shops that predominantly work for dealerships, IN MY experience they operate with a quantity over quality mentality and work towards "good enough". I had a bedside, tailgate and bumper replaced by a shop that works for many dealers in the area... to say it was a friggin nightmare would be putting it lightly. Lesson learned.

Sorry dude, puts a damper on the new truck honeymoon period for sure. I know the feeling.

Hope you get er' fixed good as new.

 

If anyone is interested I can install that mod for you for half that price.

Might as well have it replaced & have it replaced with scoop hood then at least you gain something from this bad incident.

 

If you are looking for a good shop take a look at Tualitin Auto Body. They did some work on my '06 Tacoma a few years back as well as my Corvette. Very happy with their work.

 

Was this from the windstorm? That totally sucks. I hope your truck has a speedy recovery.

 

That really sucks. Sorry to hear it OP. That is my kinda luck...

 

That would fall under a "comprehensive" claim not collision. Usually that deductible is cheaper. Unless you have your deductibles set higher.

Sorry for the damage. We are just south of Seattle here and it was quite the windstorm yesterday. There are branches and debris all on the roads. I suppose on the positive side you are ok and the branch wasn't bigger/or gone through the windshield.

Damn man and on a new truck...sux!

I actually had a f'ing tree fall on one of mine while I was cruising up the interstate. Did ~$9k in damage..trucky was a year old and had 7,000 miles on it. BUT, when I got it back you couldn't even tell it had been worked on.

Looking for more before and of course after pics of the repair.

 

Thanks guys, yeah it was a pretty brutal windstorm! Lost some shingles on my roof also... but I'm getting a new roof in 3 weeks already planned so that doesn't hurt nearly as bad. It certainly could have been worse, its been a rough winter. A coworker had a tree fall on his truck in his driveway a couple months bad, been in the shop for almost 2 months getting that fixed. It was a truck he had for about 3 months. Something about this winter I think!

I haven't actually talked to my insurance yet so maybe it won't be as bad as I think. Will start that conversation Monday probably.

And thanks for the tips on shops.

I'll definitely keep everyone posted with before and after photos and of course all the drama, hopefully there isn't any but you know how this kind of thing goes!

 

I feel your pain, had mine for 3 weeks and had a piece of plywood kick up in front of me on the highway. Ran clean through it at 70 mph. Sucks man.

 

Sorry man. I don't know if the dentless repair guys can do anything that large, but if there isn't paint damage, it might be worth a shot. Most won't charge you unless they fix it to your satisfaction. The A pillar might be hard due to access. I don't know.....just a thought. Then again, if you are making an insurance claim, you might as well get it fixed right. But body shops make me nervous.

 

A few more pics.. It's just enough that I feel like I have to get it fixed. If it was something I caused wheeling or something it would be different. Tried to get better shots of the hood, you can barely tell but the paint is decently scratched. A-pillar got it the worst. The mirror is a little scratched too but not bad.







Submitted my claim online with my insurace - State Farm - here's where the fun begins..

 

Remember that in Oregon the insurance company can't tell you what shop to take it to. Only one I trust is Leif's in Tigard. They only use OEM parts, no cheap stuff, insurance companies hate them! They fixed a car for me and you couldn't tell it was repaired if I gave you a magnifying glass and a full day!

 

You might talk to the guys at PSI, I'm sure they have heard good & bad
