Maybe it's the effectiveness of this forum, but I could not find the UNI UP-107 on Amazon or Ebay. I had to go to UNI's site (http://unifilter.com) and ordered it there. Supposedly it's been shipped. Foam was OK ('13 V6 at 45,000 miles) but am going to do the mod anyway, once it arrives. Thank you all.

IMG_6419.jpg Finally got mine installed it only took three weeks to arrive. 2013 50,000 foam looked completely fine thankfully, glad to have this taken care of. Thank you op and everyone that aided in this thread.

Caprizzy your 13 should be fine. I thought this was only the 2012 models? I have 54k on my 13. Foam looks brand new.

This concerns me too but I figure any moisture will be suspended in the air, and once, for instance, it is drawn up into the factory filter area it's not making its way back out. My suspicion is that both filters will allow the same amount of moisture pass. That said, hopefully we don't see a rash of valve failures due to this mod down the line...

They did not. I wasn't curious at the time what caused the failure as long as it was replaced. If I was to guess, most likely a bad pump motor as I doubt the foam or fins would have gone bad. I heard it squeal one morning at start up and was fine until the next start up same day then MIL and limp mode.

Just did the filter mod as well. 28k on a 2012, foam looked in good shape, just a little dirty. But I feel better replacing the foam with the breather. Thanks to the people in the thread bringing this up before failure point for some of us!

Just did the mod with the Uni UP-107 at 45,000 miles ('13 V6). I used a folded business card to pry the inlet off, as I usually break these plastic parts. Foam was OK. The UP-107 breather will fit onto the inlet neck such that the cover will fit back over it and hide the red filter medium. As others have stated, I will save the foam and factory inlet - just in case. Sounds a little different on startup but about the same on shutdown. Thank you all.

How do you remove the end piece so that the new UP-107 can be placed on the intake?

I used a screw driver to pry one of the tabs up and then pulled and wiggled till it popped off.

So I am thinking when inserted on the intake the four tabs ride up and over a lip and then drop locking the piece to the end? I will take a look at it again tomorrow. Thank you for the insight.

That would be correct. I thought I was gonna break mine but it popped off and was fine.

Just did this today with the Uni filter....my truck has 55,000km on it and the foam filter was a little dirty but looked ok otherwise. I did this as a preventative measure so I hope it won't f*ck up my truck.

Edit- I had a chance to drive my truck a few times....I would have to say the air pump noise it a little louder now than it was before but nothing too noticeable.

Replaced foam filter with unifilter at around 32 k miles.
Foam filter was in good shape in my truck.
I used 4 pieces of a cut up credit card to get black plastic cap off--unifilter took its place.

Just put the filter on mine after my secondary air injection valve was replaced. The service tech advised that it and the air pump tend to fail around the same time.
The factory filter looked fine. There was debris on the outside of the filter. Put the filter and the cap in a Ziploc. Will put it back in before I have to take it in for service.
    Definitely a poor design.

Installed the Uni Filter on mine today - 2015 DCSB TRD Off Road 4.0 4x4 - the pump cover has two attachment points. The inner one proved a bit difficult to manipulate, and the plastic cap yielded to gentle prying with a small screwdriver while "rocking" it off. At 28,600 miles, filter looked good. Uni filter installed under the cover with no issues. Hopefully this helps dodge a bullet on down the road somewhere. All thanks to OP for the very useful tip, I had no idea the truck had this wonderful bit of technology on it.............air filter.jpg taco.jpg
