    I think a good chunk of us on stock ecu or piggyback do the post turbo thing. Truck drives like stock very well. Plus in case if I get an air leak the MAF won't freak out.

    To minimize this, put your MAF as close to your TB as you can and your BOV as close to the Turbo as you can. Or do what I do and don't run a girly BOV :D

    Yeah I'm about to redo my IC piping with mostly solid tubes vs a billion silicon couplers, hopefully that should help flow, and at the same time I'll move the MAF closer to the TB.

    Also no BOV here :D:D:D chu chu sounds ftw

    I understand no BOV for a cheap turbo but aren't you running a garrett @StAndrew ? Are you one of those guys that just doesn't believe compressor surge is bad for a turbo? Although I do agree they are pretty ga.... not my cup of tea, at least not the sound.

    No I have a cheap China turbo. The BOV discussion is debatable.

    It's been proven that off compression surge only puts as much extra force on the turbines as about 1 more PSI of boost. So if you are running a turbo at 8 psi and releasing the throttle it will effectively be the same amount of force as 9 psi initially and with each 'chuch' the preassure will go down.

    The danger is on compression surge where the turbo basically spools out of control and builds so much boost that it starts to push back on the turbines. With the force of the exaust pushing one way and the surge pushing another, and the turbine probably spinning at a few hundred thousand RPMs, something is going to blow. There is a video of it that made the rounds a few months ago. It's a Supra that blows his turbo quite spectacularly. You can hear the turbo and engine go ball out right before it does. Probably had an issue with his waste gate not opening enough or at all.

    The big difference between on and off compression surge is the absences of exhaust gasses driving the turbo.

    It's still a hotly debated topic and I tend to advise running a BOV mostly because it's the generally accepted standard and I don't what to steer anyone wrong. But personal I think I'll be ok without one.

    If you do get one, make sure to adjust it so as not to dump all the pressure every time you lift up on the pedal.

    Yup, that's on compression surge and is bad. Looking at how the boost is building and just maxes, the waste gate wasn't opening for some reason. As I said, the big difference is the turbo is 'driven' during on compression surge, not during off compression surge. When you let off the gas and close the TB, there is an initial surge of pressure that is generally between .5-1psi higher than what you are boosting at. All other 'chooch' sounds you get from the turbo isn't so much the air forcing its way out, its just the turbine slowing and the blades stalling.

    This is what can happen with on compression surge, however mostly you just eat away your bearings (despite rumor, this was not a china turbo)
