New member here! Just wondering if anyone else had a slight bit of buyers remorse buying the 4 banger? I've had my taco for about 1 year and have 43k miles on it. I know this engine is bullet proof but the lack of power (all my driving is SoCal) and poor mileage is making me wish I would have bought the v6. I kinda don't want to bite the bullet and trade in, but I may consider. Should I invest in small mods like headers, exhaust system, and intake? What are your guys thoughts?

Honest curiosity, but why did you pick the 4cyclinder?

On our 99 we saw major improvements when we installed an LCE header, but that was a 3RZ not the 2TR.

Leave it alone and trade it in if you truly are upset with the power of a 4 banger. Do realize, a V6 will drink more gas, so improved MPGs should be erased from your wish list.

Those mods won't do anything for real-world performance. Either live with it, or trade up. The V6 is no race-car, either.

I bought it because I was expecting decent mileage also my dad spoke highly about the 4 cylinders reliability. Shortly after I bought it I found that the v6 gets better mpg about 2 :facepalm:which adds up for me I drive 40k a year.

The v6 is pretty whack too. Well....it's the tranny I think.

I see more comments about people being more unhappy with the v6 than the 4cyl. Just saying, the grass ain't always greener on the other side.

Not looking for anything fast. I drive up hill from San Bernardino to Barstow 2 times out of the month and my taco is the little engine that could :ballchain:.

You should do what will be best for you, I do not have a 2TR.

When we added the header to the 3RZ and kept the rest of the system stock the fuel economy improved, it down shifted less, and there was definitely a seat of the pants power improvement. I have dyno results post install but nothing before, transmission failed before we could get a good dyno post TRD supercharger.

True but his was the first that owned the 4cyl that wanted to get rid of it that I'd seen. In the 3rd gen I wouldn't have anything BUT the 4cyl and a manual.

Mind blown, first I have heard of this. Why would anyone ever by a 4 cylinder truck if it gets worse mileage than a 6 cylinder?

I'm pretty sure they get better mpg than my 18-19 daily.

Lol sorry man, wasn't trying to be a douche. That sucks.

Good news is you live in California, you probably get taxed per cylinder anyways so it makes up for it in the long run.
