Toyota has a charcoal filter for some applications, may be an option?

The charcoal filters are a gimmick. There isn't enough charcoal embedded in the media to make a difference.

The point of the charcoal is to absorb odors - the surface of charcoal is very rough an porous which permits it to 'retain' onto scents. But these companies that make 'charcoal' pleated media filters are relying on public misinformation as a selling method.

As a supporting point, I actually have some high end air filter machines in my home that use charcoal filtration to provide relief from MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity). There is 12 pounds of charcoal in the machine that the blower pushes air through, and even then it only has an effective filtration life of around 1.5 years at a low speed.

So I wouldn't spend any more for a charcoal embedded pleated media filter, because any amount they embed into the media is more for looks than for performance.

If you are having allergy issues in the truck, it would be best to change out the cabin filter frequently, not roll down the windows during the high season, use the HVAC on recirc mode, and make a regular habit of vacuuming the seats, carpet, and headliner.

Wow air filters and geopolitics of the Vietnam War all in one thread. Can someone compare K&N to Hitler so we can finish up the thread?

Won't do anything beyond let a lot more dust into your engine and make it sound a bit different.

K&N is the best in the industry at filtering money from your wallet. NO evidence that they actually filter better. NONE....But they DO cost quite a bit more. That's the only significant fact to the argument.

    Snake oil.....

There IS quite a bit of evidence that they do NOT filter as well as most "oem style" filters when used as intake air filters. But the fanboi crowd doesn't like facts and the rest of us don't need convincing.

I have the intake as well as the in cabin filter. I bought them because my filters were quite dirty, and i was leaving on a long trip the next day. The auto parts store I was at was out of the regular paper filters so I bought it.
It does not make my truck louder. When I remove the filter and look in the I take tube, there is no dust or anything, just like with the paper style. I font know of I'd buy again as they do cost more $, but I needed filters right then, and they were the only option so I'm ok with it.

Considering the original post was about just a filter, I assumed his question was about just the intake filter, not the entire intake. I have no knowledge on the entire intake, just the filters.

I think you need the whole intake not just a filter

I was buying the same thing because Toyota wants $28 for a cabin filter here. Bought the K&N washable one for the pure fact that in one year it will be paid for in paper filters from Fram. Mine has a tight fit and works just like a filter should. Does it do a better job? Don't know and don't care. I know I don't have to buy cabin filters anymore so there's that. :D
