Who owns an OBD2 scanner?

Looking to buy one this week. I'd like to keep it around $70 or less. Can a decent one be had for that cost? Any brand/model recommendations?

 

Check out ultragauges. Sometimes they have a group buy on here or they come up in the BST section often. It's worth it even if you have to pay full price.

 

$3 for a bluetooth obdii adapter
Torque for android is free. Free version does tons. Full version has a few bells and whistles, costs $4. It works on most smartphones and tablets.

If for some reason you have an iphone, you can pick up an old android for a few bucks on craigslist. It doesnt have to activated to work for anything but making calls.

 

If you are just looking for a scan tool, you can get one off Amazon pretty cheap, and they work fine.

 

Bought mine from Harbor Freight if you have one nearby.

 

I have been using one of these Bluetooth obd2 dongles w\torque pro professionally for years and years I have 2 one i keep in my truck and one at work. I use it so much the sticker is worn off. Alsotorque lite the free version cannot read engine codes or reset the system and a bunch of other cool stuff. But it is nice to download the app so you can familiarize yourself and play around before you spend the money to use the app!

Yeah, that's where I got mine and as stated, cheap and they work fine. Definitely worth the investment compared to taking the truck into the local mechanic... The last engine light that I had was for an o2 sensor on the exhaust.

 

Got my Ultra-Gauge on a group buy on here. It's pretty awesome. It'll throw a code before your truck shows a CEL and reads various things that are good to know.

this one. it's a $25 deal that is supposedly considerably faster than the cheap 5 dollar blue dongle. Get it and the Torque app and tell me how fast it is

When did they stop?

I used lite for years just for checking and clearing codes, only switched to pro for the hp etc calculators.

ScanGaugeII is in both vehicles.

Have a unit from http://www.obdscan.net/ if I should happen to need the 'real deal' with freeze frame and other goodies.

 

I have a $15 one from Amazon - works great.
