Well now see this is where I start to get defensive.

Speed limit, flow of traffic, says I do 80. I don't have a choice.

And considering that my 2nd gen could do it no problem I would expect a 3rd gen AT to be able to do the same.

Now, I actually did tons of research before buying my MT, which really helped me to choose a MT. IT performs like the 2nd gen did.

Unfortunately, the truck is advertised as an improvement on a prior model. Too many of those guys found out too late. Yes, the blame is partly on them.

But I don't disregard their gripes as baseless. And the prevailing attitude of "well, you're the idiot who expected more from something that wasn't" is downright lazy.

It is not unreasonable to expect from a 3rd gen the ability to do something a 2nd gen never bats an eye at.

BTW, the salesman never said "oh, you know the interstate out in front of the store? You'd better stay off it."

    What a load.

Once again, if that's the prevailing attitude, there's an entire swath of the country where this truck doesn't belong and Toyota should just stop selling them here.

The worst part of buying a Tacoma is dealing with other Tacoma owners... :frusty:

But Toyota is selling them everywhere, and the very small percentage of whining on TW compared to 3rd gens on the road is statistically insignificant.

Sorry you feel the need to get defensive. You did your research and got a manual trans. All I am saying is the truck will not do as some are expecting it, they have the wrong tool, if I needed to do 80 every day for work, I would not bought a taco for that commute, maybe a corolla or something.

Or you can choose something to suite your needs better and Toyota makes that, the Tundra. I've said time and time again the Tacoma isn't perfect for everything. It's also possible Toyota is now separating the Tacoma / Tundra even more instead of creating overlap. You want a small light duty truck, Tacoma. You need it to be more of a heavier duty work truck, now you need the Tundra.

When the 2nd gen came out, it was as big as a Tundra and probably ate into alot of its sales so they bumped it's size up to be more competitive in both the full size market and reduce cross shopping. If you want to sell both, make the line between the two more distinct. The Tacoma is marketed as a lifestyle vehicle with improved offroad capabilites, that's what you see in all the commercials, not bombing down the interstate at 80mph towing a trailer. They don't talk about payload, power, towing or driver comfort; they talk about resale, reliability, offroad capabilities and a sales leader in the segment. How do they market the Tundra, power, payload and size.

From the Toyota perspective, You have now moved from the Tacoma owner to what they consider now a person who needs a Tundra instead. a

Tacoma world, where it needs to drive like a BMW, tow like a F250, and have the mileage of a prius :rofl::rofl:

All kidding aside, people are getting pissed at specific scenarios. If I wanted a car that could do 80 to 85 efficiently I would've gotten a sedan.....i did my research and knew what I would be gaining and giving up.

That's unfortunate. Because the "whining" do have some basis from a purely customer service basis.

I need a truck too. I don't have money for two vehicles. Trust me I thought this out.

Eloquently put. Unfortunately a Tundra won't fit in my garage.

It is sad when you find you're in a niche market that nobody serves and the prevailing attitude is "Too bad, eat a ****."

Entirely to many to get to know. Having been pulled over and ticketed in Kansas, I know they don't enjoy speeding. I've been pulled over maybe 10 times for various reasons during my time in VA all have been different, all could give a shit.

Or you go back to the used market to find the right tool for your needs if the Taco no longer cuts it.

First gen Tundra comes to mind.

80mph is an automatic reckless driving charge in VA. Found that out last year.

Not understanding this statement. You either fit in the market or you need to go elsewhere, the market doesn't fit you.

Again you figured out you didn't/couldn't use the auto trans, so you get the manual. Again I say, for those that want to do 80 in their 3rd gen auto taco, and get good mpgs/stay in overdrive, you got the wrong tool.

A niche market is the subset of the market on which a specific product is focused. The market niche defines as the product features aimed at satisfying specific marketneeds, as well as the price range, production quality and the demographics that is intended to impact. It is also a small market segment

unrealistic expectations, the common tone is from them I paid $40k for the truck and I was expecting the performance of a Porsche or a SUV
