Here it's the speed limit West of Kerrville and 5mph over if you're East of Kerrville.

I was just expecting an improvement from what I got in 2008, you like how the 2005 was a jump in technology and engine design over the 2004 model, but apparently that was too much to ask for.

First, those vehicles listed didn't have the 6 speed I would guess. 2nd, I never said I don't think a vehicle should be able to stay in top gear going the speed limit on the interstate. I said if you bought the taco expecting to maintain decent mpgs and or stay in OD while doing 80, you have the wrong tool.
The thing is, the argument this time was the fact the taco was not maintaining 6 th gear while doing 80 on n incline or into a head wind. Hmm, let's get into a big cardboard box and jog down the road, maintain speed and get a blast of wind or up an incline you are going to work harder. I would believe gga taco has been programmed to do this most efficiently.
If I am miss understanding the purpose of theses newer transmission with more gearing and computer control, please educate me.

I think I understand the confusion.

While I did say that I wanted the truck to run in top gear at speed on the interstate, I NEVER actually said I wanted it to achieve maximum MPG. My 2011 was supposed to get 20. On a drive across South Dakota, (I-90, 80mph) I got 17.9.

You said: "If you want a vehicle that can drive 80mph, get a Corolla."

I say: If you want a vehicle that gets 30mpg on the interstate, get a Corolla.

I don't care about MPG. I care about needing to keep up with the flow of traffic so I don't hurt somebody, AND I need a truck that doesn't have to run in 4th to do that.

All that being said, you are correct. Those of us in the middle of the country probably should find something else. Obviously the Tacoma is no longer the vehicle for us.

Most of those are 5 speed autos and manual, 4, 6 and 8 cylinder engines. The Tahoe has a six speed auto. I am saying in my past motoring experience my cars don't need to be revving in 4th gear to maintain speed. The problem is the automatic Tacoma can't stay in gear at freeway speeds. I never mentioned anything about gas mileage. I understand that it will suffer at those speeds and I am fine with that.

My tahoe is an even bigger box going down the freeway and does just fine. My old Cherokee was shaped like a cardboard box and also did just fine. I have never been in a vehicle that downshifts because of wind (with the exception of my old 4Runner). Less MPG, yes.

Can I get an AMEN. I still like the Taco and am planning on keeping it. I wish I could love it because I wanted one for a long time. Fingers crossed the orange virus tune will help.

Unfortunately I was being chastised for driving 80 in a 75 because I said an AT wouldn't do 80 in top gear.

When I tried to say it wouldn't do 75 in top gear either, I was flustered and typed something that made no sense.

And that's when the sharks came...

My dads 2016 had a problem with the tranny during the first 4-6 months he had it, it did the thing where you hit the gas, and then it lags for a couple of seconds, and then goes, but now it doesn't happen anymore and the truck has been running solid ever since

I had an 06 Dakota DCSB 4x4 with a 3.7 that did this. THAT was a gutless truck. I can understand why people mistake the Tacoma for gutless.

    @Masterofnone

I will never forget driving the 4Runner on I-80. Truck was floored and doing 60. A semi started passing me and blocked the wind and the 4runner started speeding up again and I pulled ahead. Wind slowed me down again until the semi blocked it again. I could see the guy loosing his s*** thinking I was messing with him!

I was just going as fast as my 22RE would let me.

still here - watching everyone bicker.

Went out testing it for a few hours. Can't hold 75 MPH. Shifts all over the place.

I just want to drive on a highway incline with the speed of traffic.

Driving in the slow lane behind semi's and 20 year old junkers is not what I thought I would be doing in a 2017 model.

All the arguments against the issues are stupid.

Why is there not some kind of class action lawsuit for this?

I'm going to speak with some attorney's next week.

This smells like a lemon issue to me.

Why has Toyota never made a statement regarding this. Hiding behind their big corporate veil.

I'm sure there are millions of upset people out there... not on TW... wondering WTF is going on with their drive trains.
