Got bored and straight piped my 4.0 today. Left the exhaust on the clips and attatched it like so (see pic) in case I got sick of the noise and wanted to put it back on easily. Kind of like an electric cutoff but I have to do it manually. Any cons to having it straight piped? It doesnt sound too bad.

    I've wondered about doing this...

Did you pull out the lead donut thing that should've been inside that flange?
Not expensive to replace if you lose it but no need to lose it in the first place.

Is it raspy or just loud?

So by "straight piped" you mean you disconnected the cat back portion of your exhaust and are keeping it from banging around by offsetting the connection with one bolt? Hmmm....interesting....

Google revealed another tw post. So I summarized it for you.
    Pro: ......
    Con: annoying...
    Illegal in most states.
    It's a v6 not hemi lol
No (significant if any) gain in hp
I'm not sure of this but I would assume u could throw a code in your cats after awhile or possibly burn up o2 sensors die less back pressure. Just guessing there

My opinion is this engine doesn't sound good so making it louder is a horrible idea. My latest Tacoma came with a trd exhaust which isn't very loud but I still miss the stock one. You must have had a civic prior to this put the damn exhaust back on.

Your 'attachment method' is good. It's how we used to hang the exhaust when we opened the headers at the strip to keep the pipes from bouncing around.

If I'm looking at the pic correctly, you've disconnected the cat back, correct? If so, you'll have a CEL soon.

Not to mention the sound is horrid on these things.

But it's stuff kids do to learn and play. I did my share of nonsense along the way.

Because the rear 02 sensor won't be getting data that shows the cat is working. IE the delta between it and the upstream sensor won't be correct.

Not true straight pipe. Still has cats. Just disconnected muffler.
Isn't the sensor in front of the rear cat? He disconnected behind the cat so sensor and emissions technically not affected since all cats still in place.

    1 thing you should consider.
You're dumping exhaust right under seats. You could be breathing it at stops or slow traffic.

I don't get the 'loud for loud's sake' thing. On cars or on motorcycles. Really, I'm not impressed, and neither are the girls, or anyone else above the age of 13.

Drove like that for a few weeks, out of necessity. Just noisy. No sensors will be affected. Nor will it set any CEL's. I second totmacher.

Get the manual cutout of you want it easy to remove. But it's a V6 and you gain nothing from it unless you just like it loud and not a deep throaty loud like a V8.
