I'm in Grand Junction, been on the page for a while just reading and learning...after a couple kids and getting the approval to finally start building a "family friendly" camp rig it's time to get the ball rolling.

The area isn't bad....depends on what your expectations are. Not a lot of shopping/dining choices...housing seems to be getting more expensive and more new construction showing up.

Steer clear of the Clifton area....thats where the majority of the crime/issues seem to be.

Anyone have any experience with Delta, Co, Southeast of GJ? Just had a job offer in Delta County.

What's the place like? Entertainment? Recreation? How passable are roads to Grand Junction and east to Denver/Boulder in varying seasons? What are the summer bugs like? Schools? Live music? Local colleges?

Hwy 50 Grand Junction to Delta is never an issue. To get east, towards Denver you need to head to GJ and jump on the 70. You can go east towards Aspen but that's a lot longer trip that's just going to put you on the 70 in Glenwood anyways.

Summer bugs are not that bad. I don't live there but people I know that do haven't said anything about them. There is lake Switzer in the area and I suppose they could be an issue around there but that's speculation.

Schools.....it's a small town with only one district. It's rural so take that for what it's worth. You can probably look up their stats through the state and see where they rank.

    Live music...no info there.....doubtful.

College(s)....Delta/Montrose tech. That's it. Colorado Mesa University is up in Grand Junction. ~45 min +/-

Entertainment....not much. There is a small movie theater and a drive in but that's all that comes to mind.

Recreation....plenty of outdoorsy stuff to do. You'll be relatively close to the uncompagrhe, grand mesa, San juans, west elk....etc

    wanted to add...

Drive time to Denver is probably 5 hours or so. Same for Salt Lake City.

As I stated a while back, I'm in Carbondale and after doing a little snooping I found Pearl Pass leading from Aspen to Crested Butte as well as one from Marble to Crested Butte. Anyone ever done these trails/passes before? I'm also very very interested in any dirt bike single track that I might be able to find! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Pearl Pass is the best road in the state IMO. Awesome views, low traffic, just enough challenge to keep it interesting. Make sure you do the out and back to Montezuma basin. Keep in mind it's only open for at most 2 months per year. Might be august before it's open all the way through.

Scholfield pass and the Devil's punchbowl are pretty awesome as well. Make sure to stop at Slow Groovin in Marble for lunch.

Awesome, thanks for letting me know! I figured it won't be passable for a few more months but it's absolutely something I'd like to check out. I may make the run on my dirt bike first to get a feel for things. I saw Montezuma Basin on Google Earth and figured that would be worth a look!

Thanks. Found it on Craigslist, seller is a four wheel upgrade shop in Fort Collins. You will see their RMT logo on other rigs.

Great to see some activity on this thread. I would love to join a local group on a ride, being a newbie with only a few rides under the belt.

Sweet! I would love to too, but I don't think there are many of us out here. My boyfriend and his buddy have a pretty sweet 88 pickup and first gen 4runner, but other than them, I've only seen a couple sick rigs. I haven't heard of anyone else on here that's in the GWS area.
