My first car was a '79 mustang hatchback...

    Four banger. Talk about ugly/useless.

Yes, the old 2.3 could not get out of its own way, think that engine dates back to the Pinto.

Notchback red and black with black hood stripes..79 4 banger. I had a teacher comment he got stuck behind me going up the hill to school one day and how slow I drive. I opened the hood and said "don't laugh" but he did.
At least yes. I sourced something for mine off a junkyard Pinto motor.

It had a four speed and I used to do almost 45mph in second. I could not blow that motor up. Floated valves for days and all it did was burn a little oil.

This was in high school in the late 90s. So the car was a beater to begin with and both my older brothers drove it before me. After I was done with it I passed it on to my little brother who was also unsuccessful in blowing it up. We all learned how to replace a clutch though:D.

It was ford blue and my older brother named it "the blue friend". Stuck with all of us.

Ya I remember that. I still think every thing has its place and would think it's hard to tell which plant the truck is built. This sounds like a task for someone that works at a yota dealership.

Mine was a 3spd auto. I only wanted a 4banger as I had a 40 mile roundtrip drive to school 5 days a week. Got me 6 good months and then upgraded.

But the 2.3 became something else under the hood of a TurboCoupe...

Dang, I still find myself occasionally trolling the classifieds for an '87 or '88 TurboCoupe 5 speed :burnrubber:

Lol, the Mexico plant has been building Tacomas since ~2003. The Texas plant started building Tacomas in 2011.

So I haven't read through all pages of this thread, but here's what I think I know about Tacomas:

Having a dealer replace is frame -- which touches every mechanical, electrical and alignmen-realted part and requires brute force to break dozens of old, corroded, seized bolts – is like winning the lottery.

Having a dealer unclip some nice new, clean wires and remove some clean, clear bolts to swap in a new, warranted engine is the worst things that could happen to a fella. Shit, someone's probably writing a country music song about it as we speak.

Seriously, the truck will be fine. And it will have zero effect on resale. Has anyone ever seen an ad for a Tacoma that mentioned "numbers matching" engine???

Before I buy every used vehicle I call a dealer with a vin# and ask about any major services or recalls. So yes in my case I would catch that the engine was replaced and probably not buy it.

Except most likely when you run the VIN the carfax will say something along the lines of "warranty work performed" not "engine replaced under warranty". Maybe if you ran it through the Toyotaowners website it might be more detailed, but even then a lot of those entries/details are similar and vague.

The only thing I use carfax for is how many owners, accidents and where the vehicle came from. I actually call the local dealer with the vin and they always tell you detail service records from their database. I caught many "mint" 1 gen tacos with frame replacements doing this.

So Toyota corp offered and I accepted a 8 year bumper to bumper 125000 warranty....they can submit for a lemon law review as well of course if that is done and I get a new taco then the warranty doesnt transfer but that is understood...by accepting the warranty it does not prevent me from using the lemon law etc and I did ask for first months payment they did not agree to provide that which bums me out a little bit...

So now giving a reasonable time to repair the truck :anonymous: this does not mean I have changed my mind on a new truck as I asked for trade assistance or buyback as well....and you know I will inspect everything once the repairs are completed the paint...rust proofing....leaks....etc so deff will make sure its done right and if not go from there...

Because having the engine torn apart by dealer techs on a 10 day old truck is not any worse than having a frame replaced on a rusted out multi-year old vehicle. Im sure you would be so casual and cool about having this happen to your brand new truck too. Come on man....

Are they giving you a taco rental? If not I would ask why they won't cover your monthly payment?
