Edit 4-16. After researching I have learned, the best top has not been altered for 3rd gens, the 2nd gen tail gate isn't as tall thus it won't work. Softoper has mad a 3rd gen specific version.

Also boxed this up in one box and it was going to be expensive to ship. Thinking if needed I may be able to box it in a couple and maybe that would be cheaper. That may require rolling the Windows. This box had them flat.


I purchased this used from a fellow TW member @Nimble9 back a few months ago, had it TW expressed up to me at Christmas time and stored it in my shed till this weekend. Put it on only to discover it doesn't work. Or I am doing it wrong. It looked awesome, and I think I got a great deal. Just doesn't seem to work on the 3rd gen. I am looking to get what I paid for it, $250.00

I really suck at photography, so I took a bunch of them. You can see at the back it's lifted off the back, this seems to be the issue.

thanks, Ya I am pissed it do work, need to off load this so I can replace ASAP. I really like this over the hard top I had on my 09.

 

I know for a fact that for 6ft bed 2nd gen and 3rd gen works. Maybe it's the double cab. Remember that heat will help stretch the soft top like letting it sit in the sun. If shipping wasn't much I'll take it.

 

They make one for the turd gens curved tailgate. On the 2nd gen it hugs the tailgate great. Great deal on this top. GLWS

 

Its the way the back bar fits the back, not sure how to explain it, but to "latch it, I need to pry the sides up. Thus it won't seal on the back. Where you at, maybe we can TW express it.

 

thanks, I am going to contact besttop and see what they can do for me. I don't want to get rid of it, as I need something ASAP, not much camping gear will fit without it.

 

Did you check your measurements between the bars to make sure you are at the factory width? Seems like the rears is hugging the curved park of your bed making those tabs bend down.

 

when I put it on, I left the clamps a little loose so I could move the rails. If I didn't want to break or ruin something, I would bend the tabs up and it would be great.

 

Maybe you need to move the rear side bars out some so they are not being bent down with the curve of the bed. Make sure you clamp it tight so they don't move when you get it set right.

 

i may try it again next weekend, but I am not convinced it will work.



After looking at this photo, I was thinking I should move it forward and put it infront of the gate, but I don't think that's really how it should be.

 

I'll take a look at that, it just doesn't seem right. I would think the rubber seal would sit on top of the gate.

 

Just got off the phone with Bestop, seems they have not made any changes for the 3rd gens, they agreed I should sell it and find a different brand.

Agreed, let it hang and falls down before you close the tailgate. It goes infront and under that metal rear hanging plate. Hope that helps and I'll try to find an old picture. Did you also lock the front on the furthest slot?

 

Wow that's odd they would tell you to just go with a different brand instead of trying to help. The way it looks in that picture that tab is touching the tailgate and it shouldn't. Maybe it needs moved towards the putter edge of the bed or put a piece of seal "topper foam" on the inner part where the rail touches the bed to raise up the locking tab. Hope that make sense.

 

I thought that too. But those latching tabs seem to be pointing down too far as well

 

that would be moving it just opposite of what I thought, but hey worth a try.

 

I tried that and with the tension of it assembled made the bottom brackets start to bow so I didn't go any further
