Can we make this post a sticky and require everyone that comes to the 3rd Gen forum to read before posting?

@Spare Parts exactly what @Masterofnone said. The truck feels horrible when it is going that fast in 4th gear.

The 4runner had 115 HP for a almost 3800 lb rig. Taco has 278 for 3,980 to 4,480 lbs. so for double the power I would expect it to drive better. It is not 700 rpm difference it is a 1700 RPM difference. It makes a huge difference to the driving experience. Why design a transmission that you can't use the over drive gears for a common driving scenario?

Is driving on the interstate only the domain of a full sized truck? I did not see any warming on Toyota's website saying "not intended for freeway use"

I appreciate the backup, but I think this is all a lost cause, friend.

As far as gas pedal experience, I agree. Everything else not so much.

    hmmm
Why wouldn't you want a motor thats screaming at 3100rpm when it can hum at 2400RPM?

3100 minus 2400 equals 700 At least in my math world. Guess maybe its 1700 in the new math.

And I did not design this thing, It just baffles me how folks freak out because the truck down shift to attempt to be the most efficient for the current driving requirements.

This forum has two camps. The Taco is Gods gift to the motoring world and can do no wrong. Then there is the Tacoma is a piece of garbage camp. It does not appear there is room for discussion about it's issues with out everyone telling you to sell your truck and you bough the wrong vehicle.

I have owned Jeeps for the last 10-15 years and was active of their forums. Stuff on those rigs is breaking all the time and they just help each other diagnose and fix the problem. I am Llttle sad that tacomaworld is not like that.

I guess we will just drive off into the sunset, in a headwind, at 80, screaming in 4th gear!

If I had joined TW before I ordered my truck, I would be driving a chevy auto now.

Because in 6th gear at 80 the truck is running at 1900 RPM and in 4th it is around 3600 RPM.

I was speaking hypothetically. Sorry if you took it literally.

I didn't design it either. Baffles me how folks freak out because one guy doesn't like something.

I drive my truck on the interstate everyday. It doesn't have the low rpm torque I've had in other vehicles. It doesn't seem to mind rpms. It is a little annoying, but I don't drive 80mph very often at all as most of the speed limits here are 70.... sometimes 75. Truck doesn't seem to mind RPMs.

    Agreed.

    Lol.
