I concur, get a good step bit( they're like $50 at Lowe's) and some cutting oil and it will go pretty easy. Get a center punch and maybe a good small pilot bit too.

Hey all, I have a question about Paypal. Is it a safe way to receive funds? My dad has a guy who wants to buy a motorcycle and pay via Paypal. What are the risks?

Should be so long as you don't do it as money to friends/ family.

Edit: as the person accepting the money there's less risk, risk is basically all on the buyer

I don't miss that about my wife's Honda Accord. I bought a shit ton of those plastic clips because I rarely have the patience to remove them properly. I bust them off and replace them. Stupid set up!

I guess the guy could file a dispute after the fact that the item was as advertised, doesn't work, etc.. but so long as it's properly advertised he should be ok

The reason I'm asking is, when I google it they make it sounds like the risk is on the seller as it is very easy to make a claim in Paypal. They go on to say Paypal is notoriously difficult to work for so they just pass on the claim and don't do much to help you resolve it. I've never used Paypal for any large purchases so I have no idea.

He's out of state. He wants to send money via paypal, let it clear, then arrange shipping. I've heard this scam before with checks, not with Paypal though. I told my dad to have the guy send a USPS money order instead.

Good to know. It seems a little fishy but I didn't think Paypal was terrible as far as security. Sucks there are so many ways to screw people out of money.

But you're a responsible buyer. I want to know if some scumbag wanted to abuse the system, how easy it is to do and how easy it is to get away with.

As long as the item/money isn't gifted, the transaction can be disputed if there is a problem. I've never needed to do that though.

It's hard to recoup your money one of the ways though, even if you got scammed. I can't remember if it's as a buyer or seller

I have disputed a couple of transactions on paypal. Both times not getting products. It was an easy process but one of the times the seller never responded so I had to wait a long time before paypal ruled in my favor.

I'd be worried about my dad getting the funds, sending out the bike, then having to deal with the dispute. Hopefully the guy will just do a money order or wire transfer.

Personally if I'm selling something of that value, I'd opt for a money order or wire transfer first. Like you said, lot of ways to get scammed nowadays.

IF he does do PayPal for the bike, make sure it is sent as "goods and services", and that the buyer accounts for the transaction fees that PayPal charges the seller.

If you receive as goods and services, you have protection through PayPal. If you send "as a gift/family/friends" there is no protection. I've been fucked a few times that way for gauge work...
