I'm looking at an 02 prerunner trd that appears not to have a rear locking differential. At least there isn't a button to push the engages it. Did they make them without a rear locker in the trd?

Don't think so. Maybe a poser. Check diff for actuatorelocker actuator.jpg motor.

TRD prerunners with the automatic transmission and the 3rz (2.7L) did not get the rear locker. This was the only combo of engine/transmission that did not get it from the factory.

Yes they did make TRDs without the e-locker in the first gens, it's uncommon but they do exist. Particularly the 4cyl TRD models came without a locker.

People also put TRD stickers on non-TRD.
TRD doesn't really mean anything without the locker.

Yup, I got an 03' prerunner 2.7l. No locker. But great truck nonetheless.

Thanks for the replies. The one I'm looking is an 02 4 door trd with 182k miles. Has the 2.7 4cyl, leveling kit, aftermarket rims, different head-unit, and I think that's pretty much it. Doesn't have the towing package either. 7500.00 is what I have him down to at this point. Looks to be very clean as well.

Somewhere here on TW is a link to a website where you can enter the VIN and get the factory info on that truck. I can't remember the URL right now - Old Timers disease...

If it's not a 'factory' TRD - meaning someone just slapped a sticker on it - maybe that 7500 is more negotiable ;-)

true, although they did slap the yellow Bilsteins on the ext cab, the double cab got the regular shocks for some reason :(

True. Thats why I put "really" in italics. Generally by now 1st gen shocks have been replaced anyway.
